http://www.fox.com/oc/pictures/images/group-formal1.jpg
Orange County, California, is an idyllic paradise -- a wealthy, harbor-front community where everything and everyone appears to be perfect. But beneath the surface is a world of shifting loyalties and identities, of kids living secret lives, hidden from their parents, and of parents living secret lives, hidden from their children.
Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity," "Go"), McG ("Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," "Fastlane"), Davis Bartis and Josh Schwartz executive produce.
vs.

http://i.cnn.net/v5cache/THEWB/Images/Dynamic/i38/WB-Upfront03-GL-16_2x3_240.jpg
A contemporary spin on an old story. Two decades after his parents died in the African jungle, leaving him to be raised by apes, Tarzan's billionaire uncle has him captured and brought back to New York City. Escaping captivity, he meets a police detective named Jane who is already romantically involved with another man, leaving her to choose between civilization and humanity.
From executive producers Laura Ziskin ("Spider-Man," "Pretty Woman"), David Gerber ("The Lost Batallion"), P.K. Simonds ("Party of Five," "Beauty and The Beast"), writer/co-executive producer Eric Kripke ("Truly Committed") and director/executive producer David Nutter ("Smallville," "Without A Trace").

Well, I don't want to watch either of them. But OC looks less painful.

http://images.zap2it.com/20030716/whoopi_240_001.jpg
After running a small hotel for 15 years, a one-hit-wonder diva decides to expand by opening up the hotel bar as a lounge where her fans can come see her on a regular basis. Complicating matters is her conservative younger brother who takes her up on an offer of free office space, bringing along his white girlfriend who has a cultural identity problem.
Tom Werner, Marcy Carsey and Caryn Mandabach ("That '70s Show," "3rd Rock from the Sun," "Roseanne," "The Cosby Show") are the executive producers.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF POLAND, NEW HAMPSHIRE (CBS)
http://images.zap2it.com/20030807/brotherhood.jpg
Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET David E. Kelley takes a break from the big city to return to his New England small town Nroots. Back in the day, the Shaw Brothers were high school hockey stars, but now they're the kings of martial arts cinema. Ooops. Wrong Shaw Brothers. These Shaws remain in Poland (N.H.) years after their athletic glory. Hank Shaw (Randy Quaid) is the police captain. Garrett Shaw (John Carroll Lynch) is the mayor. Waylon Shaw (Chris Penn) is perpetually out of work, but maintains a hopeful outlook. Looking out for the boys are their strong-willed wives (played by Mare Winningham, Elizabeth McGovern and Ann Cusack). Amidst personal and professional dilemmas (always in great numbers on Kelley productions), the bonds of family remain strong.

Bobby and fiancee Liz get along great. Their parents? Not so much. Liz has two dads and Bobby's Boston family is of the old-fashioned Irsish Catholic variety. Even if they didn't have a thousand things to disagree about, Bobby's sister Maddy is always there to come up with something else. A middle-class African-American family takes in an old friend -- a white single mother with a 16-year-old son. Even though she thinks a traditional family structure will be good for him, different parenting styles and the cramped quarters start wearing on everybody's nerves. This semi-autobiographical family comedy from creator Dan Fogelman with executive producers Rick Wiener & Kenny Schwartz ("Mad About You," "Two Guys And A Girl," "Do Over") and Warren Littlefield ("Keen Eddie," "Do Over").

ALL OF US (UPN)
http://www.upn.com/Common/images/left_nav/left_nav_allofus_promo_block.jpg
Although buzz in Hollywood points to the behind-the-scenes presence of creator/executive producers Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, this tale loosely based on their blended family will not make a difference to the average viewer unless the superstar couple, Will in particular, gets more involved on-screen. Even a promised three-episode story arc with Will may not be enough to ignite ongoing interest. Does anyone, after all, care that Sandra Bullock has a behind-the-scenes presence on ABC's "George Lopez"? Did anyone care when two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda created a spin-off sitcom of hit theatrical "9 to 5"? If UPN really wants "All Of Us" to click, a move to Monday in a more protected time period is the logical solution.
vs.
THE ORTEGAS
http://www.fox.com/schedule/2003/images/popups/the-ortegas.jpg
After NBC passed, not only did FOX pick up "The Ortegas," it's giving this comedy, variety and improvisational tale of a talk show broadcast from the host's backyard the plum "Simpsons" lead-out time period. Considering the success former occupants "King of the Hill," "That '70s Show" and "Malcolm in the Middle" had in this half-hour, if the emphasis on "The Ortegas" is the kooky family and not just the guest stars (like Denise Richards in the pilot) FOX could have something here.
