...and holy shit, was that ever a kick-ass flick! I bought it at HMV for $1.99 on VHS without having seen it and I will be getting the DVD soon. I totally love 1980s sci-fi so I can't believe I hadn't seen it sooner. Great characters, a cool story that wasn't overly complex, cool effects and a rad soundtrack made this one of the better ones I've seen. And I've only seen like 3 John Carpenter movies, so I'll be checking out some more of his stuff. I think I'll rent the first Robocop this weekend and see how I like it. Anyways...8/10...solid action/sci-fi flick.

ps. any recommendations for other 80s flicks?

This movie rules, it's my favourite JC film. Snake Plissken must be the coolest character Kurt Russell ever played, and probbably always will be.

Rushmore, I'd wait to get it on DVD. It's getting the SE treatment by the end of the year. Just so you don't get screwed over.

I found Escape from New York (5/10) to be kind of disappointing. I thought it was dated and ultimately underwhemling, plus the "bad guy" was pretty pathetic. :( Ah well. Glad you liked it, anyway.

Snake is awesome but I think kurt's best character was Jack Burton (Big Trouble in little china), but then again he had Kim Catrall(sp?) in his supporting cast so I'm sure that helped.

I think I've got to say that Snake's a cooler character, but Jack Burton's still my fav. of his.

I'm with ChasingBanky that Jack Burton of Big Trouble was the much much cooler character. Much more amusing in his own moronic badass way. However, Snake is also a mega badass and Escape from NY and L.A in my opinion are good flicks. Be cool if they made a third or something.
