View Full Version : So, umm ... are Gaillos strictly a horror-dork thing?

I'm thinking they are.. Itailians have made some of the greatest murder mysteries this side of Hitch's grave and if you're weary of watching them for fear of having to suffer through TERRIBLE dialogue and bad acting then.. well, you have every right to!

For some reason, the greats like to cast based on... well, nothing obvious -Ironically, the most prolific (and talented) of gaillo stardom, Daria Nicolodi, was married to her typed Director, Dario Argento...!- And, unfourtunately, some of these actors have some embarrassingly bad lines..

But you're dealing with the mean-ass, psycho killin' mofos.. Black gloves and a penchant for gutting models with a letter opener.. Yeahyeah, you get bucketloads of mystery and engaging(dare I say it, 'revolutionary!') direction, playing characters through villas, vineyards.. Any euro-trashy scene that you can possibly think of..!

these things are OODLES of fun, I promise.. especiallly if you lean towards the DePalma, hitchcock-y kinda stuff.

horror schmoes.. was that sufficient plugging? :D

I'm not sure if giallos are strictly meant for horrorfans...I'm sure that some cinephiles might get a kick out of them.

Giallos I think are a little too brutal for mainstream audiences. For the most part horror fans are the only people I see embrace them. I try showing them to my non horror fan friends and they get freaked out and totally complain about them. Little do they know pshaaaw

I dunno, I believe the fact that not many "mainstream" moviegoers dig into giallos is based on the problem that they never heard of one. But I'm cool with that, what kind of a world this would be if people went into giallos like they went into romantic-comedies? Nah, this stuff isn't for the masses and it's better that way. People who are a bit interested in cinema will have a hard time missing the landmark movies of Argento, Bava and to some extend Lucio Fulci. Especially Bava is such an influencial director, I dare to say he even surpassed Hitch in that sense, although he was influenced by him too.
