didn't see any dutch movies/actors on any of the threads, but i'm sure we all know some no matter where youre from.
paul verhoeven (total recal, starship troopers, soldier of orange etc) for starters is someone who caused alot of commotion in the states.
so let me know what you think of the dutch.

I will add Director George Sluizer who's original Dutch version of THE VANISHING is one of the finest thrillers ever made. (Shame the remake was one of the worst- even though he directed both)

PS- If you go down the page in this forum you will find a Paul Verhoven thread that I started that is specifically geared towards his Dutch efforts.

I've noticed that there's a lot more sexual content in Dutch films when compared to American films. Not nessecarily a bad thing, but it shows how our (my) culture is. I actually haven't seen too many of them, but there are some good ones like SOLDIER OF ORANGE, TURKISH DELIGHT, CHARACTER and THE VANISHING.

Must avoid films include SCHATJES!, THE LIFT, AMSTERDAMNED, MAMA IS BOOS and most Dutch family oriented films.

thanks for you're respons ackbar and deckard.
but schatjes/mamma is boos, aka schatjes 2 are certainly not 2 pictures to avoid.
maybe much of the fun in these movies is noticed if youre a dutchman, but there are some nice scene's in them that you won't find in any other movie.
the lift (the original version)not the 2001 remake "down", was and still is a clever movie a lift coming to life because of a new computerchip? the film was shot in 1983, need i say more
but i can recommend you go and see "de vierde man".
would like to hear youre reactions on that.

I disliked SCHATJES and MAMA IS BOOS mostly because the characters were dispicable and I couldn't wait for all of them to die (only a few of them did unfortunatly).

THE LIFT was pretty cheesy when you start to examine it (killer elevator lol).

Haven't seen DE VIERDE MAN (THE FOURTH MAN) yet but I've ehard good things about it.

I haven't seen that many Dutch movies but they never had my interest until only recently, but good Dutch movies in my opinion are:

Soldaat van Oranje
Karakter
De Grot
AmnesiA
De Kleine Blonde Dood

Bad Dutch movies (in my opinion), I refuse to watch, but I just know that they include:

All "Flodder" movies
Costa

George Sluizer's Dutch version of The Vanishing is so superior to the American version, I always wonder what went so terribly wrong in the retelling. The Dutch version is so creepy and haunting, and stays with you so long after you view it. The American version...well the best thing I can say is the less said the better. The original though OMG I saw it in the middle of the day at home and I was terrified.
