only 15k is allowed, make it about 30-40k + too small for .GIF animated avatars. I got dozens of ultra cool avatars made but it sucks that the limit is only 15 kilobytes.

Is it bandwidth problem? other boards allow more k's how come yours are so low Jo?

i can understand the desire to have a cool looking avatar, but really, the avatars aren't that important. we should just be happy we have a nice ass-kicking message board to post on!

I think the SIZE is Fine as is. The site that I was previously on b4 discovering JoBlo's...their avatars are MUCH smaller.

30-40K? Why do you need it that big? It's not the size that matters, it's how the avatar is used

Hey Invincible, many people complained about the site being slow a long time ago. In fact, they placed the blame on people who posted ENORMOUS pictures as opposed to engaging in actual discussion.

Do you remember posting this:

" That is exactly what I thought! JoBlo, I will support your site, count me in man! I'm definitely buying something this Xmas thru your site!

...and umm, BakeTheMooCow?

please....lay off the HP and T3 threads! you don't know what it takes to look for the *newest* pictures on the net from a movie and posting them all on a forum, that has nothing to do with it.

I'm not being rude or anything am I?"

Ask again.

70X70 is just right. If it were any smaller, avatars would be unintelligible. If it were any larger, it would drain space, slow things down, and detract from a person's post. I vote "no."

You guys missed the point...I didn't mean resolution the size in kilobytes as in 'better quality for animated avatars...if you want to know what I mean...

Take a look...

Makes sense? the picture quality is perfect

Invincible, that animation you posted, even though it is small, is still enormous. That picture, which IS very cool, takes up 70 kilobytes as opposed to what we have now which takes up 15 kilobytes. That is nearly 5 times the size.

If everyone went from 15k avatars to 70k avatars, the board would, in theory, be 5x slower.

What you are asking is the same as if there were 5 times as many members.

How many are there now? 10,000? That is 550,000,000 or 550 megabytes of additional bandwidth, if I understand all of this correctly.

Yea its not a good idea at all cuz it slow everythin down

Invincible

yes I know its 70, but not 'everyone' would have an avatar that takes up to 70k's...

I don't thinking adding a few more kb to avatars would be all that noticeable. 40k wouldn't be unreasonable. People post pics that size all the time in threads.

Bubba speaks the truth, as usual. :D

That animated avatar of Agent Smith is huge, 77 kilobytes?! I'd say nay on increasing the size limit that much.

For now, our avatar size limit will remain at 15k. We pay our monthly server costs according to bandwidth used, so as explained here, the more pics are included on our site in bigger sizes, the more bandwidth used, the more money we have to pay, etc....

For now, everything is cool and since avatars aren't the main reason peeps come to our board....we will leave it as is.

Correction. NO ONE will have an avatar that takes up 70K.

Hey Jo, why not limit it to 13.5 or 14, maybe snag some more cash.

I'm fine with the avatar size. Because it justs fits my Conan head. Which, I must say, kicks incredible amounts of ass.

I think my new animated avatar kicks ass! It is footage from the T2 teaser trailer, and it took about an hour and a half to make it with my animator software. So it's not the size of the avatar that matters, it's just the quality.
