The sequel for the movie based on the hit manga-comic from Masamune Shirow is in the works.
Here (http://kokaku.kidotai.free.fr/share/Innocence-Promo.mpg) is the first 68 seconds of the trailer.

What I've heard is that it wont involve any of the characters from the previous movie or manga and it will be co-produced by Studio Ghibli (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away)

This should be very good. There is a Ghost In The Shell 2 manga written by Masamune Shirow and as far as i've read it's every bit as good if not better than the original manga. I wonder if that's gonna be the source from which this sequel is to be derived?

The animation shown in the trailer looks incredible, as far as I can tell. At IMDB, Motoko Kusanagi and Bateau are listed as characters. So it does seem to be a continuation of where the first left off. I wonder if it will be released at the time in Japan, England, and the United States. Like the first one was. I'm looking forward to seeing this in 2004. :)

this was a horible movie, horrible sequal, nothing compared to the first film and everything about the first movie was better than the second. Usually sequals won't be as good as the first but they'll have for example better special effects or something such as that, in this case eveything was bad.

I respect you're opinion but mine is pretty much the opposite. All the philosophical mumbo jumbo was a little much but visually the movie was stunning. It's exactly the sort of movie I can enjoy on a visual level without worrying overly about any other aspect of the movie that I might otherwise have found wanting.

I will say that I didn't really back up my opinion review, probably because I was in a little hurry. I have some time now so I could now.

crow's review

We all know the story so I'll cut it out. That line in technology where things, reality and machine have become interchangable was a great thought, I could picture that in my head, technology overunning the world that it feels reality has lost all meaning. I liked the thought, instead all I saw and felt was a case story, batou togusa and this case. Not to mention the story, this is a sequal and the story couldn't have been a deeper. The artifical dog was kind of dumb too, now pets? Yeah technology is expanding to where home pets aren't even real, it's somewhat scary yet just dumb looking at the same moment. Probably the biggest upset was the cgi, cga, the look of the movie. The first film looked a hell of a lot better. The cig escpecially for that parade scene looked good..for a videogame maybe. I think it's annoying to bring computer generated images into animation, there's no beauty in it only exception should be for nifty moments like when Motoko said "aww outta ammo" and the guy turns around, that's an example of it does work. It was overused in innocence that i sometimes said to myself this isn't an anime, I also believed it didn't look that all cool either. With ghost in the shell it was one story and the philosphy wasn't given away that as much it sorta came up in some facts, it mostley came from when the puppetmaster spoke him/herself. It was creepier, darker, creepier, better action and good enough story for a first movie. the only positive commentsI have on innocence have to be

*the main title song
*looking at the doll at the end

Perhaps if somebody is a batou fan than this isn't bad for him or her.
FINAL SCORE: 3.5/10 REALLY BAD

As big a fan of traditional animation as I am, the CGI in Innocence honestly didn't bother me. In fact I found it frequently breathtaking. Sure the plot was a little bit hard to follow and my understanding wasn't exactly abetted by the constant philosophical borrowings that took the place of conventional dialogue but the action scenes when they came were absolutely exhilerating and very well staged. Particularly the whole endgame scene where Batou infiltrated the ship and took on (along with The Major) a relentless army of robots. But I can see where you are coming from. As the end credits rolled my first thought was that it certainly wasn't conventional and definitely wasn't going to be to everyone's taste.

This movie confused the hell out of me. But honestly, the action and the visuals kept me hooked. I loved it. Not as good as the first movie. But very entertaining.
