Robert Englund Talks Elm Street: The First Murders
Source: Chicago Sun-Times
Monday, August 18, 2003
In Austin a week or so ago, Freddy vs. Jason star Robert Englund said there was a Freddy Krueger prequel script floating around at New Line titled Elm Street: The First Murders. Now, the Chicago Sun-Times has more on this.
"It takes a look at the crimes that caused the townspeople to burn Freddy alive in the first place. It intrigues me because I'm fascinated by the lives and motivations of serial killers," he tells the paper.
"Plus, I'd get to do the Freddy movie without the makeup," adds Englund.

It could be good but I prefer Freddy with makeup ;)

If New Line Cinema was smart, they wouldn't invest much in this film. Without the "dream killer" angle and the iconic scarred Freddy, this film will be about a human child torturer/murderer, which probably won't turn on moviegoers.
But I'd see it. Freddy Krueger's my favorite horror character, and I'd like to see a prequel about him.

Obviously people are still interested in these characters, since F vs. J opened so well. But how do you see another solo entry doing? Consider the total lack of interest in Jason X and New Nightmare. Is the smart financial move to continue on with them together? Or do you think there's a renewed interest in both series, and a solo outing would do much better than previous ones?

i think it would be cool to see freddy as a human, but i don't think that many fans of the noes series would be very happy. freddy without makeup? freddy without............freddy like qualities? it just doesn't sound like something that needs to be done.

I think it would work as long as the story was told in a way to show him now and in the beginning. There has to be dream sequences and Robert in the Freddy makeup but also maybe someone doing an investigation on the murders could be involved and we can see Freddy before he was tortured and what led up to it.

It's a risky project. I mean the movie would be about a child killer so they would have to tell it in a somewhat sensitive fashion or else the movie would come off as exploitive trash.

Freddy vs Jason SPOILERS
I really liked the opening scene in FvJ with Freddy as a human... It was quite a sight, probobly because the scene was only a few moments long and i knew we would soon enough see the 'slap my bitch up' horror version...
From a box office stand point, i think it would be safer if they weave a story with both versions in, maybe the later Freddy will narrorate it in past tense or somthing. Just so people would know that Robert, in his make-up would be in it.
Though from an artistic viewpoint, i think it would be hard to keep his humor which people dig about Freddy, in a movie about child killing....
i love the beginning of F Vs J it was awsome

Yea freddy completely loses all his cool points if there's a fuckin movie about him torturing kids and killing them....Sounds to much like a god damn snuff film to me....Not a good idea at all.

I don't want a prequel, and I don't want Krueger without makeup,I want 1 or 2 more freddys, then call it off for good before freddy is in a nursing home...
