This subject has been killin me since I first saw the movie a while back. What is Otis' relation to the rest of the family? Is he brother to Mother Firefly, or is he a son? Or is he.....etc etc, I have no idea, but other than that, I'm open to suggestions.

He's Madame Firefly's brother.
In the movie, Grandpa calls him 'ungrateful', maybe saying that in a sense that he's ungrateful for what his father has given him. for talking back to him. Later in the same scene, when the cops come, Otis says "I'll handle it, like I always do..."
I think Otis in Grandpa's son, and Otis pretty much runs the family because Grandpa, his father, doesn't.

In an article in Fangoria Karen Black(Mother Firefly) was talking about her kids in the movie and she said one of the sons was a sculpter who uses body parts so I assume she meant Otis was her son.

Yeah Im preatty sure that Otis is Karen Blacks son and Babys, Tinys and Rufus's brother.
Quick little trivia: Moseley also plays two other characters in the film: He plays that news reporter from channel 68, and he also plays Ed Gein who we see in Captain Spauldings famous Murder Ride.
Otis: "Knock Knock"
Capt Spaulding: "Whos there?"
Otis: "Tiny"
Capt Spaulding: "Tiny who?"
Otis: "Tiny fucked a stump!"
Ha ha hah ha ha ha ha!

See, I dunno, both options make sense to some extent. There isn't really a paternal relationship between Otis and Grampa...but there doesn't seem to be a mother/son relation between Otis and Mother Firefly. I'm drawing all this from the scene when the cop shows up. Mother Firefly turns to Otis more like an authority figure, and Grampa calls him ungrateful for something. So, both are plausible I suppose, and the ungrateful may support the grandchild theory. It may remain a mystery. Zoinks yo.

Well its a lot like TCM actually. Same basic story line, the only difference is that the firefly family are not cannibals...as far as weve seen in this movie. They are more focused in killing people for the sake of killing them (ala charles manson) and they also enjoy handing people over to Dr. Satan, a surgeon who enjoys playing with peoples brains.

In the original draft of the script, Grandpa Hugo is actually Dr. Satan. If Otis is Grandpa Hugo's son, then that makes him Dr. Satan's direct descendant. Certainly explains why he's a couple cards short of a full deck.
When compared to the evil family in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", which the Firefly family was loosely based from, Otis seems to take the part of Leatherface, so whatever relations Leatherface had with the rest of the family in TCM I imagine Otis follows with his.
