Just like every other major sequel released this year, AMERICAN PIE: THE WEDDING maintained its hold at Number 1 for a second week with $2,470,303. Falling 42%, the comedy sequel has managed a rather nice $8,024,386. Debuting at #2 this week was the 60's style sex comedy DOWN WITH LOVE which took in $878,472. I was quite surprised it didn't make a million in its first week, but I was very happy with its position. Another high entry was Bruce Willis's sentimental war drama TEARS OF THE SUN which accumulated $764,309. Arnie's machine fell 38% in its 5th week of release as TERMINATOR 3 dropped 2 places with $650,146. Its total so far sits at $17,540,985. Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron had a very satisfying advance screening run with their heist hit THE ITALIAN JOB which stole the #5 with $651,916, indicating when it opens nationally (This week) it'll do very well for itself. IDENTITY fell a further 41% in only its 3rd week of release down 3 spots, however its managed an impressive $3,492,904. The Aussie fast food comedy TAKE AWAY made a surprisingly high debut at #7 with $385,198, leaving the other Australian made flick, THE NIGHT WE CALLED IT A DAY starring Dennis Hopper and Joel Edgerton, to sit at #9 with $193,010. In between these flicks sat CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE which, after 7 weeks, has taken in a healthy $18,527,736. Another Aussie film rounded out the top 10, BAD EGGS, which dropped 59% from last week. After 4 weeks it sits with $2,106,870. George Clooney's directorial debut has been performing well for itself. After 4 weeks CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND sits with $1,107,446. Another small film doing itself proud, and debuting much higher than expected, is Ray Liotta's pet project NARC which hit the #12 with $99,281. Poor performing comedies DANNY DECKCHAIR and VIEW FROM THE TOP both fell hard this week, 60% and 64% respectively, however Gwynnie's comedy has managed $1,049,980. The Jeremy Northam/Lucy Liu spy thriller CYPHER managed to be sought out by movie goers making the 16 spot with $71,731. After 8 weeks in the Top 10, BRUCE ALMIGHTY falls out, and down 68%. However it is currently the best performing movie in the charts with a very impressive $20,296,096. The mockumentary comedy A MIGHTY WIND rounded out the charts this week, with a less-than-stellar $508,453, which is its total after its 4 week run.

THIS WEEK (August 21st): After a rather impressive Advance Screening run, THE ITALIAN JOB opens nationally. Another remake set for release this week is the rat attack feature W I L L A R D starring Crispin Glover and Laura Elena Harring. Greogr Jordan's satirical army flick BUFFALO SOLIDERS starring Joaquin Phoenix and Anna Paquin gets a look in this week, as does the poorly received comedy/drama IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY starring Michael Douglas and father Kurt.

Considering how well it did in its Advance Screening run, and when I saw the film it was very well received, I put my money on THE ITALIAN JOB being next week's Number 1.

It's great to see Down with Love on such a high position but, honestly, its figures are somehow disappointing. I don't know why people wouldn't rush for a comedy-romance musical starring two very charming leads in the likes of Ewam McGregor and the fascinating Renee Zellweger! Even if it's not too good a movie, at least it should make more on its opening week.. hmmm... it's a matter of tastes after all.. I guess!

...and WTG NARC, one of the very best film of 2002. A #12 opening of a small film like this is nothing to laugh at.

Oh yeah! Forgot to say that the hugely entertaining The Italian Job should be an unquestionable #1 next week.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Jedi. I knew Down With Love would go well, and I was very happy with it debuting at 2, but I was expecting a higher number, at least a million, but i'm sure it'll rack up over the weeks. Maybe the 60's style of it put the younger audiences off compared to the modern romance comedies that have hit it big this year (Maid In Manhattan, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days). I haven't seen Narc yet, but i'm determined to this weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised with a debut at #12, R rated films don't generally go well as PG, M and MA rated films, and plus it received next to nothing in publicity, so it debuting that high is very impressive. And I agree, definitely The Italian Job will be a hit next week.

Willard has practically just been dumped in cinemas, with very little publicity, so I don't know how it's gonna go, I won't be surprised if it doesn't go Top 10, which is a shame, cause i've heard good things about it. Yeah, like Unicron said, Freddy Vs Jason is set for October 30th, good scary movie for the Halloween season, if the release dates are as planned, FvJ will open opposite Cabin Fever. I'm really pumped for FvJ, so hopefully October won't take too long.
