According to an interview with Pixar CEO Steve Jobs in the latest issue of Video Store Magazine, the DVD won't be out until Fall 2002. But jobs promised that the DVD mega-set will "break new ground," and with DVD player penetration rapidly growing, Pixar thinks "it's likely DVD units will exceed VHS units - a first for a Pixar release."

I hate how Disney takes so long to release their movies on DVD. Like Monsters, Inc. came out in Fall 2001... and the DVD isn't coming out until Fall 2002. That's like a fuckin year!

Disney seriously takes a while to release their movies on video. Here's an example of how long they take.
Toy Story 2
Theatrical Release Date: Thanksgiving 1999
Video Release Date: Halloween 2000
Atlantis
Theatrical Releae Date: June 15th, 2001
Video Release Date: January 29th, 2002
A Bugs Life
Theatrical Release Date: November 1998
Video Release Date: April 20th, 1999
They seem to do this more with Pixar movies.

I am so dissapointed and kind of upset that this movie both in VHS and DVD won't be coming out till late September! The movie came out early November of last year! That's so long! I didn't see it in theaters and hate having to wait so long for it, especially since I was expecting it to be available this month about since in past weeks/presently the movies that came out in theaters this past November have been coming to video/DVD. I know they have to make the DVD really complex and put a lot of stuff on, but why couldn't they just release a VHS version now, or at least sooner so people could just see the movie.
thompsoncory has a point though, I didn't realize Disney usually take this long to come out with some of their movies, especially the Pixar ones. Its like with The Grinch which came out November 2000 and wasn't released on video/DVD till a year later, but that's because they wanted to take advantage of the holiday season. Is Monsters Inc. really that much of a Halloween movie, I think it would do very well rentals/sales-wise regardless, and it came out after Halloween anyway.
Its like the movie The Others, where it came out last August and is taking till next month to come out, because it first opened in various international markets since it first came out and was continuing to, I think that has something to do with it, like with Monsters Inc., it just hit places like Russia last month and has yet to come out in Turkey, at least for another week. I'm looking forward to its release but its a long time to wait.

I knew it would be packed, and recognized that it takes time to put together a loaded DVD like that, but Shrek had a ton of stuff too, and its DVD isn't first coming out this month, nearly a year after its release now is it? There is still a legitimate gripe here. And like I already said, why not come out with the VHS earlier, as naturally that would have just the movie and maybe one making of featurette.

I hate waiting for DVDs to come out it is going to take forever, because you know what they are like they will put the release date back about 2 months like they normally do.

Hopefully they will end up on the set, if not as an Easteregg. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
