I've seen the movie twice and I'm still trying to deicied if we should count to as Friday The 13th 11,ANOES 8 or a spin-off.Which one is it?

It's too early to decide for sure, but I personally regard FvJ as an eighth Nightmare film, since it retains the vibe of that series, and Freddy gets a lot more screentime than Jason. Nothing's official yet, but it could end up being a seperate entity altogether. It may depend on whether or not any sequels get made.

it has parts from both 13th and Nightmare, so the best bet would to call it a spinoff, in my opinion.

I say spin-off as well, even the brains of the movie Ronny Yu said it was a completly new movie in one of his interviews.

The way I see it, it's the 8th Freddy film and the 9th Jason film, but not Nightmare On Elm Street 8 or Friday The 13th Part XI.

It was a spin-off.
If it was just a Freddy movie then then why was Jason's past being shown? Jason was the emotional side of that movie as well as the babyface. Freddy was the heel.
The story aspect was mostly Freddy's, and I think if they didn't use Freddy in a story situation, Freddy would barely exist in the whole movie. The killing aspects were all Jason though. Freddy only killed one person. Jason was also the bigger threat. He could get you rather you were awake or alsleep. And Jason was doing all the killings and would not stop even when Freddy wanted him to. Freddy got one kill in. And all the best kill scenes were done by Jason. i.e. The bedroom scene and the rave scene....
The finial fight scene also took place on Jason's turf. Not Freddy's.
If you ask me, both NIGHTMARE and FRIDAY fans get there share of both - I think it was equal.

Put me down for "spin-off" as well. I also don't see how people feel that Freddy dominated this movie - I don't think that he did. Jason carved up FAR more victims (what did Freddy have, a couple?) and was supposedly the character that the audience was to connect with/feel more sympathetic for (though I'm not sure how you feel sympathy for an undead mass-murderin' MFer)

Heh. Try only ONE. :D
BTW, I have always felt sorry for poor Jason...and have always cheered him on in his movies. The teens in the movies are morons who should know better then to go there on Jason's turf, therefore I do not pity em' when Jason gets ahold of them. :D

Yep! The way I look at it, Jason is the hero of the 'Friday' movies.

Yeah, to me his movies are more like action flicks and are also sorta like the Rambo movies as well. With our hero tracking and taking down one piece of trash at a time. :D

Jason's past was only shown to actually reveal that Freddy was in it! Freddy let the kids drown jason, and with that being said...I believe the whole "Jason's past scene" had more of a Freddy impact than anything else.
The film opens with the story from nightmare on elm street with freddy narrating, and it closes *NOT* with jason walking out of the water in victory, but rather a wink from the child-killer. at least that's the very last impression that me and others at my cinema got out of it.
Jason did his dirty work and had some good story in the mix, but I feel this had Nightmare written all over it. From start to finish. and you ask why was the whole finale at camp crystal lake then? This is because Monika Keena druged herself to capture Freddy and bring him into our world...this is so a Nightmare element. So yeah...I'de say that Crystal Lake is just a location like anywhere else that could have been used in a Nightmare sequal.
All in all, they both kicked my ass so hard that it wasn't funny and I wouldn't have changed a thing (except maybe bring back Hodder)

SPOILERS FOR FREDDY vs JASON!
As far as I'm concerned here are FREDDY'S kills:
1. Mark Davis (who was burned to death)
2. Freeburg (I'm guessing he was killed when FREDDY jumped into him)
and on another note
3. The little girl in the beginning of the movie
4. Mark's older brother
5. Lori's mom
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Okay, you are completely wrong here. Freddy was in the dream, but that doesnt mean he was actually a counselor at Camp Crystal Lake. If you go by that logic, then in real life as Jason was drowning, Freddy was having sex with a corpse out in the open for everyone to see.
Thats just my 2¢.

I've seen the film quite a few times and this is really the only thing I am still puzzled about...but I think you just cleared it up for me. It makes sense that Freddy wouldn't actually be in the open for everyone to see but why was he there at all? Unless they just decided to throw some twisted dream/real world sequence at us. oh well, you guys must be like 10 times smarter than me because I honesty didn't (and don't think I will) get this.

I know I'll get rapped in the mouth for this but I thought Freddy vs Jason logically followed A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and Friday the 13th part 4.
Therefore I'd call it a unofficial sequel to those two films.

I'd have to go with most of the schmoes that have responded thus far and say itsa Spin Off.

I reckon it comes after Jason Goes to Hell (Friday the 13th part 9), because Freddy states in his narrative part that he had to search the bowls of hell to find someone to spread the fear again. And he found Jason, and where was Jason sent to when we last saw him? Hell.
Thats what I think anyways.
