how many people actually use scene selections? If I watch a movie I like to watch it all the way through, I've only ever used chapter selection when I was recording sound clips to a minidisc complimation. Why do studios think that they should include the standard idea of chapter selection under 'special features'? it's like including on the back of a CD 'Track selection', does anyone have any explaination of the need for this useless feature?

The only time I use Scene Selection is if I want to rewatch a particular scene, but that's not often. I'm with you; I like to watch a film straight through. It could be handy if you have to leave off someplace in the middle of a movie, but otherwise, there's no other reason for it.

Yep, you can tell if people are clutching at straws when they put Scene Selection as a special feature. It's funny how it's never mentioned on more fuller releases http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Seeing as David Lynch doesn't put chapter selection on his movies, then they somehow qualify as a special feature because not every movie has them...
Anyway, I generally don't rewatch my movies straight through. I watch particular scenes or a whole part of the movie (say, the first 45 minutes or something), but I rarely watch them completely if I'm only casually browsing through my collection, especially with long movies (ie Seven Samurai, Godfather Part II).

I think scene selections are useful as sometimes (like in Moulin Rouge), I like to go to the scenes with musical numbers to watch them again...
But i agree that they shouldn't be labelled as "special features", as they're pretty much understood to be a regular part of most dvds (with the exception of lynch's stuff)

The biggest use for scene selection that I have found is if you have to stop watching a movie for some reason in the middle of it, you can easily find your spot where you stopped. That and to watch a specific really cool scene is the only times I have ever used it!

Why is Scene Selection a Special Feature? It's because of the differences between VHS and DVD. Scene Selection is usually used as a special feature on bare bones discs to make a person buy/rent the DVD. Second,on a VCR,you have to rewind or fast-forward to a certain scene you might like(believe it or not, people actually skip to their favourite scene). On DVD the person can just see it with the touch of a button. It's simply used to woo the customer into getting a DVD player or renting/buying a DVD movie.
