I just wondered if any of you had any input as to what could make a new thread successful, like if it has alot of posts and stuff like that. Here's some of my input:

1. Don't make a copycat thread! If there's a Freddy vs. Jason thread, we don't need 20 more.

2. Make the thread sound interesting. Grab the reader's attention.

3. Think of something original and that you think people might like sharing their input on.

Anyone?

I like threads that post for the topic what the topic is about rather than an ambiguous statement. Say what movie the topic is about, or an actor, director, etc. Things that just state "this makes me sad..." or "what do you think about..." without saying what the topic is about don't draw me into a room. The reply section is where you say it makes you mad, sad, or ask for opinions rather than the "teaser" section.

what makes a thread is more and more people posting on the topic, what breaks it is people going off topic.

If you mean by "successful thread" a thread which has a lot of posters and visitors, then I guess original and intriguing subjects. Also, if you`re after the traffic then a thread with Freddy vs Jason in its title should be a sure bet. :)

I myself like intelligent, original threads and creative threads. I mean threads where you can post your own work and your own ideas. One of my most favorite thread is "Ideas for a horror movie" by macready (I believe), but it seems so unpopular these days. At first it had quite much traffic. Now, when you bump it up, it quickly falls into darkness again. I like all threads about creativity, but I tend not to read the script threads. They just are so long and stuff.

I like it when a thread takes on it's own life.
like the12 monkeys thread in general movie talk.
some great discusions going on in there.
if a thread gets a lot of posts, it doesn't mean it is a good thread.

Yeah, I know that popularity doesn`t quarantee quality, but popularity can be interpreted as success.

There is a lot of users in this forum so it is normal to have similar topics I mean it is human.

I find that the ones that let people offer insight or personal stories do the best. Like the kind that are mostly a question that everyone answers.

ie: "last horror movie you saw/bought" or stuff like that.

I usually find the most interesting threads are not the ones with the most traffic, but the obscure ones that are out of the mainstream. The ones with less posters.

I'd be interested to see what threads had the most posts in each forum.

It's clear that Current/Upcoming Horror's top thread of all time is the Official Freddy Vs Jason Thread <ahem>which I started<ahem> :)

Not sure about in General or Past Horror though.
