View Full Version : Next Weekend Box Office Predictions (Jeepers Creepers 2, The Italian Job)
******EST. THEATER COUNTS******
Jeepers Creepers 2 - 2,800+
The Italian Job - 1,700
Civil Brand - 35
JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 - 14 MILLION
What JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 has going for it is that it's opening at a time where the Box Office doesn't have much to offer and it's the only new wide release opening. Plus, after Freddy vs. Jason, some people might be excited for more horror. However, a lot of people hated the first one, and we know how much that hurt TOMB RAIDER 2. Out of all of my friends, everyone has either hated Jeepers Creepers or thought it was just OK. And everyone from work thought it sucked too. In fact, I recommended it to one woman that loved horror and said she wanted to see it, and she ended up thinking it was awful. I'd say about 70% of people didn't like it, and it had something like a D- average rating for audiences polled by Cinema Score. So the fact that a lot of people weren't hungry for more will hurt this one. However, with the lack of competition, it should be able to bring in at least about 14 Million.
THE ITALIAN JOB - 3 Million

Jeepers Creepers 2 - 15 million. The complete lack of competition should help this sequel equal the original in box office opening weekend and the film should also have a pretty easy time becoming the number one film too.
The Italian Job - 3 million. This was a crowd favorite and it's my belief that many people will take the chance next weekend to see it again.

JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 - $19 million
This looks much better than the original and since the box office is at a slow pace right now, it could easily take the #1 spot.
THE ITALIAN JOB - $3.5 million
This was very popular in initial release and well-recieved as well. It will definetely cross $100 million this weekend.

I think JC2 is gunna be bigger than most people are expecting. People seem to be in a mood for horror rite now, with Freddy vs Jason dominating and no new releases, I think this will do very well. Plus, its the last sequel of teh summer and is getting loads of advertising.

Are you crazy ? Freddy Vs Jason was waited for 12 years and now a small film like JC 2 were teens are stuck on a road ... wow gee, a road ... and chassed by some kind of dragon ... the hell ?
Dragon hasn't got any name and is not a big horror icon, Freddy and Jay are !!
However if JC2 does beat FvsJ, it will be total humiliation that such a waited film is beaten by a new comer horror film !

JC 2 won't perform as well as F vs. J its first weekend that's for sure, but it could turn into a long-running horror franchise. I for one want to see that rumored western style prequel.

How is he crazy for expecting JC2 to be bigger than expected? The first was a big surprise. The second has more advertising behind it and I agree with his statement that people are hungry for horror now that F vs. J has done so well. Plus, it's the only new wide release of the weekend. I think it will have a very healthy opening, though not close to the opening of F vs. J.

I hope JC 2 opens at number 1, or even FVJ at number 1, it's good to keep horror on top (Humm, maybe my opinion would go down better in the horror section) But I feel good word of mouth will launch Marci X to the top spot.

I'm really not sure how Jeepers Creepers 2 will do this weekend. One one hand, it's the only big new release, but on the other hand, it's got a few things against it.
First of all, like a few people said, a lot of people disliked the first film, and I mean A LOT. I know very few people who liked it. Most of my friends think it was a terrible piece of shit, and a lot of people around here feel the same way. I still don't really understand why so many people disliked the first JC. I thought it was original, suspense filled (especially the first half) and well-acted (great chemistry between the leads). From what I can gather, most people disliked it because in the second half it was revealed that the creeper was some sort of a bat-dragon-creature thing. I've never understood that, either. People can accept anything that's thrown at them in a comedy or action film, including Jet Li flying through the air in some of his films, but have trouble accepting the fact that there's a monster in a horror film? Bah.
Anyway, my point was (before I got off on a tangent) that a lot of people disliked the movie, so the chances of it outgrossing the original are unlikely. And the original didn't even make $40 mil. Furthermore, the trailers aren't too enticing, in my opinion anyway. The lack of competition will help it, but not enough for it to be considered a big success. I see it opening with $11 million and finishing with $30 million.

People weren't expecting much from the first one (financially), and people didn't expect F vs. J to make anywhere near $36 million opening weekend. But wide release horror films almost always open strong. Crap like Valentine and Darkness Falls have double digit opening weekends. For people who didn't like the first (and personally, I know more people who like it), I think they're trying hard to make them see that this is very different in concept. With not much competition, a successful first film, more advertising this time, a long weekend and following the success of F vs. J, I see it doing pretty well. A stronger opening than the first and a final tally of $45-50 million.

dude what r u talking about?? Yeah, I think JC2 is gunna make a couple million more than the 15 million that most are predicting. Did you even read y i said this?? I'll break it down:
1. FvJ showed that people are hungry for horror
2. There hasnt been any real big releases woith loads of advertising in two weeks (i mean this current week and last week) People will c this simply cause they've seen everything else.
3. Sequel power. While I kno many depsise teh original, I think the second is appealing to a wider audience. General consensus on the preview (as far as I'm concerned) is postive.
also, how is it an insult to FvJ if JC2 replaces it as number 1?? It's held the position for 2 weeks, a mighty feat, the first to accomplish it since X2. When Freddy vs Jason is dethrowned, I would hope its by a fellow horror movie.

2. Freddy Vs. Jason- 8 million.
3. Marci X- 5 million
4. S.W.A.T.- 4 million
5. Open Range- 4 million
The Italian Job will probably pull through with 3 million in 6th or 7th place.
I went to see Marci X tonight and it was sold out. It was a pretty funny movie. I think the word got around that it was playing and was a good normal comedy.

The Good Things Going For JC2--
==========================
1-More publicity than the first
2-Opening right after FvJ's opening
3-The only wide release of the week
4-More stylish than the first
5-Many people tend to skip theatrical releases and wait for video. I'm sure that if many people liked the video, they would be willing to watch the sequal in theater.
Bad things going for it
=================
1-MGM sucks
2-MGM sucks
3-Popularity of the original is uneven.
4-Paramount re-released The Italian Job, apparantly betting that it hasn't much competition (and also probably due to the failure of Marcy X
I forsee JC2 earning $20M the opening weekend, and probably finishing at around $45M, close to the original's tally.
The toppers from last week will probably follow suit, and The Italian Job will probably pop up with about $3.5M in the slot before My Boss's Daughter.

Seriously, I don't know how that company keeps making it. Other than the rights to James Bond and Legally Blonde, they don't seem to have much going for them anymore. They've made the biggest bombs here of late like Deuces Wild and Rollerball. Which must be why they make sequals to movies that pull in $40M -- they're desparate for $$$.
Freeway
08-28-2003, 10:07 PM
Deuces Wild only cost like ten million so, it likely made money in the long run through rentals and sales. Rollerball and Hart's War are the films that probably lost mucho money.
Nate6
08-28-2003, 10:11 PM
I'm shocked MGM is still around...it's alive almost entirely because of James Bond and DVD sales. Even Legally Blonde 2 isn't going to pull in a huge profit (though it'll be good enough)...

08-28-2003, 10:33 PM

Jeez, that's a little rude. It's just his opinion. F vs. J has had its time in the spotlight, and should slip to around 5th place this weekend, and in two weeks should be out of the top 10. But that's ok, it's done incredible for the kind of movie it is. Hell, if pretty much anything decent looking opened wide this weekend it probably would have knocked it out of the top spot, and even if it wouldn't have, F vs. J still most likely wouldn't have been #1 because it has bigger drops than the other movies playing that have been following so closely behind it. Those movies would have been battling it out for the #1 spot.

JC2 will still likely outgross the original for the weekend and easily be the number one film. And the sequel will effectively break its own record for Labor Day Weekend.
