In case you Lord of the Rings fans haven't gotten your fix yet, or you just want a refresher, New Line is re-releasing The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers in theaters only two weeks before The Return of the King opens, and some theaters will have special extended editions of the flicks. (Variety)

In case you missed The Fellowship of the Ring or The Two Towers in theatres. Here's your chance to catch it before Return of the King!!!

This is awesome. I saw both of these in the theatres multiple times, but i can't wait to see them there again. These movies are meant for the big screen.

Good try, but no. Films can only be nominated for Oscars in their original year of release (being 2001 for FOTR and 2002 for TTT).

Were the extended versions ever played in theatres?

I think this is a GREAT idea. You really have to take every opportunity you can to catch movies like these in the theatres, because a lot of times, once their done in the theatre, they're DONE. These movies are at their best on the big screen... Let's get'm on the IMAX screen... who's with me?:D

This is great that this will happen.

But I doubt they will be playing in Hawaii, and that really pisses me off. I'm taking time off work for opening night. If I find out all three are in a marathon, then I'm taking BOTH days off!

i think it's abit stupid because they have released the dvds already so i doubt that many people will go.

They aren't doing it for the money.
It's more for promotional purposes than anything, and in my opinion I love more than anything to see a movie in theaters than at home. So if I have the chance to see the extended editions in theater, I'm goin. Fur sure.

Dude, you're so right. I HATE movies with people talking!

That's why I watch 2001, Quest for Fire, silent films and Children of a Lesser God (on mute)...

I'm just messin with ya. It's not a great movie to some people, no big deal. Joblo could side with ya on this one... :)

No doubt i'll be there , most likely for the the showing of the entire trilogy , all three films in succession , culminating with a midnite screening of Return of the King , what an experience that would be , i think it's a terrific idea to re release the first two a couple of weeks before the final installment , but too witness them all within a 12 or so hour period , on the big screen , will be something i will cherish for a long time too come , just pure excellence .

Also , don't expect an Imax version of any of the three films anytime soon , i've read that the format maxes out at two hours . Don't know too much about the technicalities , but it has something to do with the transfer process and the High Def medium that limits the amount of audio video information that can be stored in the Imax format . I'll tell you what i would really die for , a 3d version of the trilogy , oh man , that would be A mazing . There is software out there that can convert any dvd image into 3 D , so i hope someone takes it upon themselves to try something like this .

FUCK YEAH!! I love LoTR and after the Return of the King it will go down as the greatest trilogy ever imo, and i know there will be alot of arguments over that but honestly it is the best adventure story ever put on the silver screen, the story is so engaging it grabs hold of you and takes you on the ride of your life, it feels like you are right there with all the characters its an experience not to be missed.
