Lost in Translation.

PLOT: Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) are two Americans in Tokyo. Bob is a movie star in town to shoot a whiskey commercial, while Charlotte is a young woman tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). Unable to sleep, Bob and Charlotte cross paths one night in the luxury hotel bar. This chance meeting soon becomes a surprising friendship. Charlotte and Bob venture through Tokyo, having often hilarious encounters with its citizens, and ultimately discover a new belief in life's possibilities.

Written and Directed by Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suicides).

Whoa...having not heard that much about this movie, I've got to say that I think this one'll be one of the top films of the year. With a great cast (Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Giovanni Ribisi and Anna Faris) and Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suidies was in my Top 5 of 2000) directing again, this could be the best "small" film of the year. It's just great too to see Giovanni Ribisi in something worth while again as he is definetly one of the most underrated actors working in Hollywood.

I only heard about this project a couple months ago while I was browsing through the movies at upcomingmovies.com but I immediately got excited (this is definitely one of the movies i am looking forward to the most coming up in the hext four months along with cold mountain, 21 grams, big fish, and kill bill).

Sofia Coppola did an amazing job with Virgin Suicides, the trailer for this looks great, and so do the posters! I just simply can't wait for this, and early reviews (go to aicn to check out a review just posted) seem to say it's another great movie from coppola...

and plus, this time, she has comic (and dramatic) heavyweight Bill Murray to boost the acting levels up, not to mention that Johannson is such a fantastic actress, and has been making great choices...I really can't wait for this!

This looks just plain wonderful. I'm a huge Bill Murray fan, and Sofia Coppola showed real promise with "The Virgin Suicides", so I can't wait to check this out.

This is on top of my list of movies to watch this year. I'm loving the cast (Murray, Johansson, Ribisi) and the premise sounds very promising. I'm betting this will at least get some noms next year for the Oscars.

Comeback from what? Rushmore and the Royal Tenenbaums? IMO, those were his real "comebacks" films that are leading him to better projects like this one. But I agree, this could finalize his comeback.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Murray has found a new niche late in his career. His supporting roles have been drawing a lot of attention, from "Wild Things" to "Cradle Will Rock" and "Rushmore".

"Lost in Translation" looks to continue the trend of more serious work for Murray, although it's a leading role this time.

I mean comeback as in finally getting a large screen release as a lead character...

This news has made me the happiest man EVER. I have waited four years for my beloved Soffia to make a follow up to The Virgin Suicides...and after seeing the frankly brilliant Ribisi in Heaven, as well as the legendary Bill Murray signing on the dotted line, my anticipation levels for this movie are the highest of any movie I have heard of since I joined the forums...

I was sort of torn over VIRGIN SUICIDES, but I'll see this anyway. Scarlett Johannson is awesome. Have you seen her cover for INTERVIEW magazine?

Sweeeeeeet.

I loved The Virgin Suicides (9/10), and saw it has the coming of a brilliant young director in Sofia Coppola, who did a lot to make me forget about her awful perfomance in the third Godfather film.

This looks just as good. Bill Murray has impressed me with his range of roles in recent years. I think his comeback really started with his delightful role as the ambulance chaser in Wild Things, and from then on, nothing but strong supporting performances.

I can't wait to see this.

I just watched the trailer again and I've got to say that it wasn't what I thought it would've been just from looking at the pictures, website and posters. But that's not at all a bad thing. It seems a bit more "artsy" than The Virgin Suicides (which was like one long beautifully shot dream-sequence) and I love the look of the film-and the trailer definetly grows on you after a few viewings. Still eagerly awaiting this release....oh yeah, Scarlett Johansson is a total babe!

indeed, the trailer for no particular reason i could gather reminded me of punch-drunk love (i hope the movie isn't that far tho...i love magnolia and boogie nights and virgin suicides, but PDL was a bit too artsy and random imo)...

Still, that's not a bad thing, I liked parts of Punch-Drunk love, but the randomness of events here and there just were too weird for me. I have faith in Lost in Translation tho, if it's anything at all like Virgin Suicides, I'll be extremely happy. :)

Early reviews at AICN have been very positive, so that's a good thing...

Looks to be a great indie film. Those who saw it already rave Murray's preformance talking about Academy Award Nominations and what not. I liked Virgin Suicides where Sofia proved to be a much better director then actress (Godfather 3 anyone?) so ill definately be chekcing this out.

another reason to be excited for LIT: Anna Faris!!!!

After taking supporting roles in this and May, m thinks this girl knows how to smartly build a career. I like Bill Murray and for the most part Scarlett Johanson (she was a bit flat sometimes in Ghost World, which wasn't like the character in the graphic novel but thats just me being a geek) and I appreciated The Virgin Suicides so this is a must see for fall, which looks to pick up the slack of this shitty summer.

This movie looks to be great. I saw the trailer for it when I saw American Splendor. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanasen look to be a great match.

I'm getting more and more excited about this film as time goes on!

Another review, this time by an actual critic (one that i read occasionally), www.themovieboy.com it's on the front page a sneak preview. And it's extremely positive! I really can't wait for this film now...
