Anyone know anything about the next installment in the Mad Max series, Fury Road? I know Gibson is starring and that they've begun production on it, but that's about it... Anybody have any idea on the premis/plot, other cast, release date?

Did some online research, but it appears they're keeping things under wraps pretty well, at least as far as major leaks are concerned. It's in the early stages now, however shooting was delayed due to the war (may be up and running by now however). It's slated for a July 23 2004 release as of now. The rest of what I've been able to find is as follows:

1.) (12/10/02) The title of this project is currently just 'Fury Road', with apparently no mention of 'Mad Max' (much like how 'The Road Warrior' doesn't mention 'Mad Max' either), (1/31/03) The official title is 'Mad Max: Fury Road.

2.) (12/10/02) Before 20th Century Fox gave it an energetic $104 million greenlight, this project had previously been struggling for life at Universal Pictures

3.) (6/14/00) Mel will indeed be back continue; in a recent IGN interview, he said that he will be back. Perhaps if this film is set in a far future beyond the first three, Gibson would merely be playing the descendent (or whatever)? (9/25/02) Jeffrey Wells of MoviePoopShoot.com reports that he's heard that Gibson plans on starring in this film sometime in 2003 after he wraps up his third film as director, The Passion, starring James Caviezel as Jesus. There have also long been rumors that Heath Ledger might costar as Max's son. (12/10/02) "Variety" has confirmed that Mel Gibson has signed on, with his salary expected to be in the $25 million range. (1/8/03) Sydney's "Herald Sun" newspaper reported last week that Robert Downey Jr. may be recruited by Gibson to costar, since they enjoyed working together on Air America and The Singing Detective. The same article mentions the possibility that Emil Minty and Tina Turner may return as the Feral Kid and Aunty Entity, respectively. Please note, however, that all three of those names are completely unconfirmed.

4.) There are no firm details about the premise of this film, except that it *is* to star Mel Gibson as the aging post-apocalyptic hero, Mad Max, with a young actor possibly costarring as his son (or the "Feral Kid"). Filming: Production is scheduled to start in September, 2003 on location in Namibia on a budget of $104 million. There will also be some filming on sets at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.

5.) George Miller back to write and direct.

That's about all I've found and these were facts that were consistant over several sources, so it sounds at least fairly solid though it's still not much.
