Last weekend on a day trip to Seoul to spend my hard earned won, I happened into a shop that sold VCD's and other crap. Low and behold, I spotted a Raiders of the Lost Ark Special Edition on the shelf. I thought this was a little suspicious, since I didn't see the other two films along with it.
Upon closer inspection, more sirens went off in my head. The cover looked great, it had a snakeskin design with "The Indiana Jones Collection" logo on it, like off the newest video trilogy box set. I was thinking that this is a worthy cover for this great movie. But when I flipped it over to look at the back, I was more than a little put off.
Aside from the writing on the box being Korean (go figure huh), too may things stood out. The was no George Lucas lables anywhere, no THX logo. This was one of the first big clues. Then, for all the "extras" in this Special Edition. It had scene selection, cast bios and a movie trailer. Good god, these are some great bonus items. I got this much on the original video release from the early 80's.
And finally the box. It was like opening a box of chocolates. Come on, as if it would ever be released like this.
I still bought it, because it was only $25. But I was wondering if anyone else has come across an edition like this or for another hit movie.
