From Variety.com:
Several studios have declared war on the purveyors of videos featuring vintage nude scenes. Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, MGM and Orion Pictures have banded together to sue the makers of "Hollywood's Hottest," a series of videos that collects the nude scenes of stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Jada Pinkett and Drew Barrymore.
Collections in the series include "Hollywood's Hottest Body Shots," "Hollywood's Hottest Before They Were Stars" and "Hollywood's Hottest Love Scenes."
The studios, which filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles federal District Court Aug. 27, allege copyright infringement and demanding that the tapes be destroyed. Plaintiffs are also asking for $6 million in damages.
In the suit, filed by attorneys Louis P. Petrich and Vincent Cox of Leopold, Petrich & Smith, Radioactive Films (aka Radio Active Films) and company officer Robert R. Collins are named as defendants.
According to the suit, "Radioactive is a corporation that exists for the sole and exclusive purpose of selling illegal, unlicensed copies of excerpts from major motion pictures, the copyrights of which are owned by plaintiffs and others."
The suit claims that dozens of major pictures are among those infringed, including Witness, Indecent Proposal, Titanic, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, American Pie, Boys Don't Cry and Bull Durham.
The tapes also include clips from Warner Bros. films like Eyes Wide Shut and New Line's Body Shots. However, those companies are not currently among the suit's plaintiffs.
According to the suit, Radioactive does business in Las Vegas as HollywoodHottest.net. However, the suit lists Collins as a resident of Marina Del Rey.
The company also maintains a website, but the only contact information offered is an email address. Daily Variety received no response to an interview request emailed early Thursday.
The videos are sold primarily through advertisements on late-night cable shows that skew heavily to the young male demographic like E! Channel's Howard Stern show.
Apparently, that show does not draw the demographic of the women whose nude scenes are being hawked with lines like "your favorite superstars doing the nasty in ways you've never heard of."
"I had no idea," said PMK/HBH publicist Stephen Huvane, who reps "Hollywood's Hottest" subjects Liv Tyler, Demi Moore and Elisabeth Shue. "I'm going to make them aware of it. I'm going to make their attorneys aware of it."
According to an E! spokesperson, the Hollywood's Hottest advertisements were purchased from local cable providers.
-------
Well, it was only a matter of time. This informercial is second only to "Girls Gone Wild" in its ubiquity on late-night cable, and I've been wondering (while considering if I should whip out my credit card) if the producers of this had cleared the rights to make this tape.
So, does anyone own this collection? Years ago I made my own version of this for a friend's birthday gift. (She was easily turned on by Hollywood sex scenes.) I should have sued for stealing my idea.
