************SPOILERS*********************
Like any David Lynch movie, there's going to be questions at the end. Not everything is black and white, and not everything is wrapped up. Blue Velvet is a lot less weird than other Lynch films, but I still have one major question.
Gordon/The Yellow man:
You first see him enter Dorothy Vallens apartment when Jeffrey is there posing as the bug guy.
The next time he's seen, it's with Frank outside of the warehouse.(This is when Jeffrey gives him the nickname "yellow man".
After that, he's seen in Det. Williams office, and Jeffrey realizes that Yellow man's name is Gordon.
The next, and last time he's seen is in Dorothy's apartment, after he has been killed.
So, with these clues, we know that he had connections with the police, and we know that he also has connections with Frank and the other bad guys.
So my question is this:
Gordon/The Yellow Man... Is he a crooked cop, or a police informant?
Anybody think they know, or have any other theories?

There is another thread that was posted recently in the horror forums about this movie.
Including some comments about The Yellow Man.

Technically what?
I'd call it an erotic thriller, and also it's clear that it was made to resemble the classic film noir themes that Lynch seems so obsessed with. There are elements of all genre's in Lynch's work, but I don't see where your getting horror.
How is it technically horror?
How is it horror at all?

How is it that so many people could love this slow-moving and uninvolving "thriller"? 5/10 at best....a major disappointment for me when I saw it a few weeks back.

I don't see where you're getting erotic. Do you think this movie was designed to turn you on? This ain't Body of Evidence, where the sex scenes are meant to get you hot and bothered.
A lot of sex doesn't make a movie erotic. I watched Bully twice in three days, and at no time did I feel the director wanted us to stain our sheets.

It isn't.
But on the Arrow's review section there are reviews for Pirates of the Caribbian and Single White Female too. So the line isn't always clear to all people.

I didn't say that it turns me on, but that doesn't mean it's not erotic. The whole plot was based on the bizarre erotic fantasies and fetishes of the characters (excluding Jeffrey).
It was one of the biggest themes in the movie, I'm not sure if you missed that..

Really? Man, I thought that perv-O Clark was going for the exact opposite.. I mean, come on...! Stahl shirtless is dammned near heaven!
"Tommy, can you hear me? From this milkless tit you have sucked the very buisness that we call 'show'"?
felt like throwing that in... ;)
Blue Velvet, IMO, is horror.. The lines are kinda blurred, really.

The fact that you don't like it doesn't have anything to do with the genre. Just because a movie is labelled 'thriller' doesn't mean it will be a great movie, or get more than a 5/10 from you.

Blue Velvet is pretty difficult to categorise. It's dark and nightmarish enough to at least fall partially within the ill defined boundaries of the horror genre. If pushed I would call it thriller noir but since I hate trying to categorise someone as brimful of originality and genius as Mr Lynch undeniably is i'd have to be pushed pretty hard. Besides what i've already mentioned I would say that there are aspects of the movie that are evocative of morality plays and it could even be called a twisted love story. Every time I watch the movie I stumble across another layer and I don't feel i've managed to quite get a grasp of everything Lynch was trying to say. He's a unique talent.
As for the question at the top of this thread. It's been a while since I last watched the movie. I'll give it another viewing this weekend to refresh my memory then i'll be in a better position to attempt an answer.
One other thing...is anyone starting to tire of the frequent arguments that spring up about whether certain movies belong in the horror genre or not? Over on the horror forum one schmoe completely lost me when he suggested that The Others wasn't a horror movie. Huh?

Good point.
I don't care if a movie is horror or not, but Blue Velvet is broad enough to belong in general movie talk.
