I just lingered thru George Lucas´dry-as-dust tecchie speach on the commentary track of ATTACK OF THE CLONES. That was the most boring commentary I've ever heard. Anybody got similar experiences with dull DirCom tracks?

This should be in Best/Worst/Favorites/Etc. or Dvd Discussion.

This probably belongs in the DVD discussion forum or maybe the best/worst/favorites forum, but I will say that I had to turn off Paul Thomas Anderson's commentary on the Boogie Nights DVD about 20 minutes into it. I love the movie and I think he's a great director, but he was giving close to no insight at all, and plus he kept swearing every 3 seconds.

I remember I know what you did last summer being painful to sit through with the boring ass director talking about plant life during Sarah Michelle Gellar's stalk scene?!?!?!

I do believe there was a topic on this I dunno what forum its under, could be DVD could be Best& Worst, who knows:confused:
But anyway, I did mention that the
Thomas Crown Affair-1999Director
John McTiernan is the only person talks in a tone that he is sooooo happy to be here that I switched it off cause he was depressing the HELL out of me.
I love Robert DeNiro, but he was awfully boring on the Meet The Parents.
Even Ben Stiller tries his best to liven it but fails.:(

Agreed this thread is misplaced, but eh... here's my two cents... To date one of the worst commentaries I've sat through was Tim Burton's track on his Planet of the Apes re-telling. Terrible and incredabley un-informative. The whole track seemed to me to be a useless rambling, and while I tend to enjoy Burton as a director most of the time, I doubt I'll listen to anymore of his commentary tracks on a DVD again. What a joke.

The commentaries for Blade and The Big Hit were about as exciting as watching paint dry

Now that this is in the correct forum, I'll post in it.
The most boring Director Commentary for me would have to be The Matrix one with John Gaeta, Someone else, and Carrie Anne-Moss. Intriguing while there is talk, but there are large chunks of the commentary with no talking whatsoever!

Noah and Toby Emmerich's commentary for Frequency is alot of fun but alas the same cannot be said of director Gregory Hoblit. I found him to be a bore. Maybe because he's alone. I always find commentary tracks with more than one person is far more entertaining than commentaries with just one person. Case in point three of the most entertaining commentary tracks by far are The cast and director of Below, The cast commentary on the last episode of season 1 of Alias and Cameron Crowe, his mother and some other people in Almost Famous.

I have to agree with the Almost Famous Cameron Crowe/ Mother commentary, as hearing the true stories behind many of the scenes in the movie is just fascinating.

The Die Hard Special Edition had a boring commentary. John McTiernan's dull voice strikes again!
I agree with Lynn Minmei, The Matrix commentary was boring
The second Austin Powers had a pretty dull one also. Which was surpising considering Mike Myers was there.
Personally I hate very technical commentaries, I want to hear some funny or interesting stories at least geez. Or when filmakers get philisophical and try to make their film seem more important than it really is.
Oh and yes DeNiro should not be allowed to do anymore commentaries. He's a VERY quiet and shy man so he hardly talks. Maybe he just needs people he's familiar with to open up more (Like a commentary for Goodfellas or something..hint hint to Warner Bros.)

Not enough said, why shouldn't I listen to it? What's the matter with it?

The most boring director's commentary is...all of John McTiernan's commentaries. If you can't get sleep, give one of them a try!

Tim Burton for Sleepy Hollow. He didn't say much and what he did say i pretty much knew already. There were large periods of silence and he seemed very very dull and uninterested. I don't think he's really interested in Director Commentaries very much. Some people just don't like doing them.

Do you mean the commentary he did with Gunnar Hansen. Damn, that one was GREAT!
Can't think of the WORST, but the most boring one is John Frankenheimer on THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. He barely says anything, and sometimes he drops just a single sentence after five minutes of silence. Disappointing given that he did great commentaries for RONIN and FRENCH CONNECTION II.

I'm not sure exactly who it is, but the commentary for Me, Myself & Irene is probably the worst of the ten or so I've heard so far in my venture into DVD-land. Half of it is like "Okay, this guy in the background here, he used to babysit my sister's cat when I was in the fifth grade." I dont' think a single person goes by without them specifying who it is, how they are related, where they lived, blaaa blablaaaa blablaaaah.

You better stay away from Farelly Bros DVDs in the future, Falkor. They love to point out every relative, friend, ex-lover and pet they used as an extra in their movies on EVERY commentary track they have done. Truly annoying.
