I'm thinking of becoming a movie critic writing for the paper and my question is how would I go about doing this? Are there any collage course I need to take?Any input would be very helpful.

I wish I could offer you some wise advice, my friend, but unfortunately, I pretty much stumbled into my gig as a "film critic", so I don't have much background or professional advice to pass along other than...make sure you LOVE MOVIES!!!

I just started writing reviews on the Net as a way to keep my writing skills sharp, between screenplays, and in order to remember what I thought of all the movies that I watching (my memory is a mess!) Over time, folks starting diggin' my reviews' vibe and the rest is history.

I actually studied Business Administration in school, so that certainly didn't help me with my writing (although it definitely helped me keep this site alive through the tougher times) but I did take some "creative writing" classes as electives though...those were fun.

Here's a "real" film critic with some thoughts that might help you: http://www.makingitcount.com/JobsCareers/careers/cc_mcgurk.asp

Sorry if I wasn't very helpful.

I'm no expert in writing movie reviews (just read some of mine in the current movies section) but I'll just say that make sure you LOVE movies, and that seeing a lot of bad Hollywood movies doesn't dampen it
