The ultimate film President is one you mentioned: President Evans in The Contender, played by Jeff Bridges. Who WOULDN'T want a president like him? Brilliant, funny, solid as a rock...great performance by Bridges pushes this guy to the top of the heap for me.

Top Ten Movie Presidents
1) Presient Andrew Shephard (Michael Douglas) in The American President
2) President Richard M. Nixon (Anthony Hopkins) in Nixon
3) President James Marshall (Harrison Ford) in Air Force One
4) President Jackson Evans (Jeff Bridges) in The Contender
5) President Russell Kramer (Jack Lemmon) in My Fellow Americans
6) President Matt Douglas (James Garner) in My Fellow Americans
7) President Merkin Muffley (Peter Sellers) in Dr. Strangelove
8) (Jack Nicholson) in Mars Attacks!
9) President F.D.R. (Edward Herrmann) in Annie
10) President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) in Independence Day
If Jack Stanton (John Travolta) in Primary Colors and Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen) in The Dead Zone counted, they'd be up there. And speaking of Martin Sheen, Jed Bartlet in "The West Wing" beats everyone on here with the possible acception of President Shepherd.

3. Bruce Greenwood in Thirteen Days
4. Jeff Bridges in The Contender
5. Anthony Hopkins in Nixon
Honorable mention: Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact
Special mention: Dennis Haysbert as President David Palmer in 24. A tv show not a movie that is why he is not on the list but if I did put him on the list he'd be #2.

My thoughts exactly. But if we were counting TV, I would say Martin Sheen as President Jed Bartlet on "The West Wing" was the best.

You're so right, Antonio. Back then, I was rooting for Del Toro and then he won, and I was happy. But I saw The Contender, and was immediately pissed off that Bridges wasn't given that Oscar. Great, great performance.

David James Alexander was excellent as Teddy Roosevelt in NEWSIES, but he was only governor of New York at the time, so I guess he doesn't count.
I can't think of any more right now.

Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact definately!
He was an on-screen president that was both dignified, and human!
