The topic says it all....
We could always associate an actor/actress with a certain character they have played, for many reasons, it could be that they played them so well, or brought such life to them, that we could always remember them as those characters....
Some examples:
Orson Welles - Charles Foster Kane (Citizen Kane) & Harry Lime (The Third Man)
Humphrey Bogart - Rick Blaine (Casablanca) & Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon)
Judy Garland - Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz)
Arnold Schwarzenegger - The Terminator (Terminator, T2, & T3)
Anthony Hopkins - Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs)
Anthony Perkins - Norman Bates (Psycho)
Al Pacino - Michael Corleone (The Godfather)
Marilyn Monroe - Sugar Kane (Some Like it Hot)
Mark Hamill - Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)
Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark)
More later.....

Excellent list! The only thing I would modify is that Harrison Ford will also always be known for Han Solo also. Marilyn Monroe I don't agree with, I don't think there's one movie role that so dominates her that people don't think of much else. I'd also say Orson Welles only has one, in Citizen Kane, but I don't think I can' come up with any new ones, other than:
Jimmy Stewart - It's a Wonderful Life
Bette Davis - All About Eve

I thought about this one too, but decided not to include it. I think Davis is too strong an actress and too big a star to ever be identified with any one character, even if that character is Margo Channing.
There was actually a discussion on this on another board, and for every person who said "All About Eve" is the quintessential Davis movie, another said "Baby Jane" or Jezebel" or "Now, Voyager" or even "Dark Victory" was the first movie they think of when her name is mentioned.

I have connected Arnold Schwarzenegger always to Conan first, but maybe that's just me.
Kurt Russell will be Jack Burton for me always, although he's great as Snake Plissken as well.
