I've been downloading songs lately and some of them play perfectly but all of a sudden it starts making all of this screeching and scratching noises. It's annoying as hell. I'll say this. For all you schmoes who download try and download Anger as Beauty by Hawksley Workman. There isn't a single good version. They either

a)start those screeching noises
b)start to fast forward through certain parts
c)cut parts of the song out(not swearing I mean about 30 seconds)

I was just curious about if anyone has the same problem.

You may've gotten demos!?

Certian record companies issue a print to distros where the intro is fucked with, or a certian part of the song is ruined.. this ensures that people can rip off other peoples' music.. It was actually common practice back in the day.

or it may've just been a bad transfer..? who knows?!

It happens to me when I download popular songs or older songs from the 80's. It has only happened a couple of times.

Yes, the last few songs I downloaded sounded fine for the first minute. Then in the middle of the song there would be beeps and blips. Even he effects of a telephone ringing. Then the last minute of the song would be fine. It must of been in like 30 out of 100 songs i have downloaded in the past month. And it was just the popular artist's songs. I thought it might be some kind of copyright guard on newer CDs.

I've gotten a few songs where in the middle of it, the sound will fade away and then a phone beep will sound, like when you dial a number without the area code.. "Please hang up and try again." That kind of noise.

Yup, its a way to slow down the illegal downloading of songs. I've tried to download the Foo fighters and especially the Mya cd but its next to impossible. Its a pain in the ass actually.

Yeah, I get that screeching alot it plays about 10 seconds of the song fine and then strats this horrible screeching sound. I think it may be some protection thing they put on new CD's or something

The screeching sound happened to me with DMX's "Who We Be", and Wu-Tang Clan's "Protect Ya Neck" skipped a portion of the song I downloaded it.

There's also the times when the version you download just seems to abruptly end in mid-song - happened with Me First & the Gimme Gimmes' cover of "I Want Candy", and when my brother downloaded Powerman 5000's "Bombshell", he only got the first 30 seconds of it.

Ever since then (and one incident involving downloading another song when I meant to download Creed's "What If"), I preview the song before I put it on the CD.
