While surfing the IMDB I came across the Luminaries of horror. It listed names like John Carpenter, Stephen King, Vincent Price, Terrence Fisher, Hitchcock, Christopher Lee and so on. I was wondering who do you guy's think the next or the current horror genre cartakers are? I know Christopher Lee is the last of the old school it seems( Meaning the last of the Vincent Price type era.)

If I were to ask myself I would name Bruce Campbell, Jeffery Combs, Angela Bettis, Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, and Jake Gyllenhaal if he get back into horror.

Let me know who you think is the future of the genre ( Feel free to name directors aswell.)

I'd love to see Gina Phillips (Trish from JC) in more genre roles.

I don't think it's quite the same nowadays - in the old days, Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing etc. were in about a zillion horror films per year, and everyone had heard of them and associated them with the genre. Nowadays, you don't really get actors regularly starring in lots of horror films - at least not to quite the same degree. And with the possible exception of Robert Englund, most non-horror fans probably wouldn't be familiar with the actors in quite the same way they are/were with Vincent Price etc.

Just call in Freddy, Michael, or Jason, I'm sure they'd love to help rid of the current generation's teeny bopper.

True, but I don't think his intentions are to become a horror staple, I think he was just testing the genre waters with Identity.

Ditto Hannibal. But Ray Liotta is mostly known as A-list actor and most people would think Hannibal and Identity were thrillers instead of gasp horror movies (which I believe they are).

Although I agree that there really hasn’t been a modern day horror legend that has based their careers in the genre and are recognizable as this. Lee has over 100 horror movies to his credit. No one is going to come close to that number in this day and age. Some modern horror stars have been mentioned – Pleasence, Englund, Combs, Campbell.

I agree with many of the choices listed by my fellow schmoes: Donald Pleasance, Jeffrey Combs, Robert Englund, Bruce Campbell, Bruce Payne, Lance Henriksen, A.J. Cook, Eliza Dushku, Angela Bettis, etc.

I'd also throw Tom Atkins into the mix. He's a great actor and been in alot of great horror movies (The Fog, Creepshow, Night Of The Creeps, Maniac Cop, and Bruiser to name a few).
