REM unleash a Best Of album covering the years since they left IRS and singned with Warners. It's a double CD with the first covering the singles (and a couple of new songs that are singles to be) and a second CD comprising b-sides and live tracks. It's the second CD that has me salivating. I have all of the songs from the first CD on the various albums (with the exception, of course, of the two new songs) but since i'm not much of a single buyer I don't have anything from the second CD. The track listings are as follows.

CD1

'Man On The Moon'
'The Great Beyond'
'Bad Day'
'What's The Frequency, Kenneth?'
'All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)'
'Losing My Religion'
'E-Bow The Letter'
'Orange Crush'
'Imitation of Life'
'Daysleeper'
'Animal'
'The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite'
'Stand'
'Electrolite'
'All The Right Friends'
'Everybody Hurts'
'At My Most Beautiful'
'Nightswimming'

CD 2

'Pop Song ’89' (acoustic B-side of 'Pop Song ‘89')
'Turn You Inside-Out' (from 'Tourfilm')
'Fretless' (from 'Until The End Of The World' soundtrack)
'Chance (dub)' (B-side from 'Everybody Hurts')
'It’s A Free World Baby' (from 'Coneheads' soundtrack)
'Drive' (from 'Live Greenpeace')
'Star Me Kitten' (featuring William Burroughs from 'The X-Files')
'Revolution' (from 'Batman And Robin' soundtrack)
'Leave' (from 'A Life Less Ordinary' soundtrack)
'Why Not Smile' (Oxford American version)
'The Lifting' (demo version B-side from 'Imitation Of Life')
'Beat A Drum' (demo version B-side from 'Imitation of Life')
'2JN' (b-side from 'Imitation of Life')
'The One I Love' (live from The Museum Of Television and Radio)
'Country Feedback' (live from Wiesbaden, Germany, 2003)

Nice!!! :D

it does look very impressive i was reading an interview about it and micheal seams very proud of the stuff on it(and rightly so),but i had to laugh when he said there was no fucking way that shiny happy people would sneak on,and i thought i was the only one who thought it was the worst song they ever released.
but i shall definatly be putting this on preorder.

Paul...

I'm not the biggest fan of Shiny Happy People meself. The video makes me want to use red hot needles to lessen the pain. I just can't decide whether to kill my vision or my hearing first and before I decide it's usually over. Shocking stuff.

Woohah the wait is over. For years upon years I've been waiting for a greatest hits from these guys because I always found their albums to be majorly hit and miss. I always assumed one would come out and finally like a decade and a half later it's hitting the shelves. I'll pick this puppy up on release day!

Oh and the exclusion of shiny happy people was wise.

While the second B-sides disc is a nice collection ("Fretless" is possibly their greatest song nobody knows), don't all the real fans already have all the Disc 1 tracks? I mean, looks like almost half of Automatic for the People is on there...and what R.E.M. fan doesn't have that album?

And, while I'm bitching, why is Up so under-represented? Room is made for a trifle like "Stand" but gorgeous songs like "Sad Professor" and "Falls to Climb" are nowhere to be found from this inexplicably underrated album.

Neither Sad Professor nor Falls To Climb were singles so that probably explains their exclusion in favor of the, i'll admit, lesser Stand.

As for half of Automatic being present. Well...it was a singles heavy album. Don't forget that the first CD has two new songs. I've read reports that suggest these two songs are among the best REM have recorded...ever.
