Has anyone seen the (sort of) vampire film 'Martin' from the late 70's, directed by George A. Romero? It also co-stars Tom Savini. I haven't seen it yet, but what I've read about it so far makes it seem quite promising - about a guy who may or may not be a 'real' vampire, who looks about 17 but claims to be in his 80's and goes around drinking blood etc. but instead of having fangs he doesn't appear like the traditional image of a vampire - he wears casual clothes and uses razors and syringes on his victims. Any opinions?

I saw it (last October I think) on IFC's Independent Scream. I think it's GREAT, combines elements of vampire horror with elements of a serial killer.

It's a unique film that I hope will pop up on IFC again soon

It is a great movie which was originally three hours but had to be cut down. What he did cut however ended up stolen/missing but you can get a pretty good idea of all that Romero intended if you should happen to find the book of Martin which is also very good.:p
If you are a Romero fan then you should watch this one someday.

Martin is one of the few Romero romps that I haven't seen. It definitely sounds intriguing. I should really beef up on my Romero acumen since I'll be meeting him next month (I just had to gloat).

Unfortunitely I already know everything that happens by reading a review that spoils EVERYTHING on a website :( I have not been that pissed in ages

I'd really like to see the film but I can't because it never comes on tv and it's not available nearby me.

How? Asshole!

Martin is one of Romero's finest.. an offff beat vampire flick and one GREAT character study.. I'd actually prefer Season... to this, but its a close second as farr as his Un-Undead flicks go

Well, I'll be attending a 24-hour horror film festival in Ohio where Romero will be the guest of honor. He'll be hosting a screening of NOTLD...!

I've actually never seen Martin (at least not all of it) and I intend to invest in the DVD sometime in the future. It's pretty far down my list of priorities though. I still have the Dead Trilogy to buy (with the exception of Night).

Wow. I'm still shocked at how many people there are that have never seen this or heard of it. I think it belongs up there as one of those underrated quiet classics that gets put in a time capsule.

But please, do not see it if you are expecting to have any blood or gore lust satisfied. It really isnt' that kind of movie. It is beautiful and erotic in some cases. Ok, I said that cause I've always had a thing (a big thing, too) for John Amplas (Martin). But really, it is nicely shot, very moody and broody. It's a great character study in the way Crispin Glover's Willard is. Actually, it's a lot like that.

Still, it is not to be missed. Romero was really ahead of his time when he did this. This is so typical today of the 'thinking man's independent horror movie'

And Amplas has a great ass er eyes.
