I posted this here, because I think
it will benifit more from the horror
loving shmoes, rather then in
the book thread. But if you feel the
need to move this thread, that's
ok. No biggy at all.
Trust me, if it wasn't for this
magazine, I would say
that NJ is the most
boringest state on the
face of this planet,
and no offence to
my fellow New Jerseyians.
I know this magazine can
be found both in NJ, as
well as over seas, how do
I know this? Well, one reader
from China sent a letter
to the editors, as well as
one coming from England
in the newest issue.
It can be found also
in other states as well.
This magazine has it all,
from true ghost tales,
haunted houses, haunted
history, and I love my history.
To UFO's, aliens, monsters,
satanic cults run amok,
to the vile KKK. Some of
the stories are mucho
interesting, from abandoned
Psychiatric Hospitals, to orpahnages
that are haunted, hell even Churches.
The cool part is, for non NJ residents,
is the Tales from the Fringe,
in which some people from abroad
tell tales from their towns, and states.
You want to learn more about
the Jersey Devil? well, in
half of the issues, they have,
you can find it all out.
What I am wondering though is,
has anybody else read this magazine?
and what are your thoughts on it.
If you want to read some of the tales
that are in the magazine, you can
find some of them at www.weirdnj.com
They have a link on the website where you can read tales from various states.
The magazine is published 2 times a year. October and May.
And no, I do not own the magazine,
nor the website, so this isn't spam.
I would love to also hear some of
your favorite stories from the magazine
should you have read any.

Being from NJ myself, I love me some Weird NJ. I've visited more than a few abandoned mental instututions, decrepit mansions, and various creepy-cool spots about the Garden State. I own almost every issue.

When I visit Philly(my home town) I travel to New Hope to pick up the latest copies of Weird N.J. This magazine kicks ass. New Jersey is a fun town.Be glad if you live there. My favorite articles are on ByBerry Mental Institution which is funny because its in Philly.

Yeah Byberry, not to sure I want to travel there, but I've been up to Overbrook a few times, the one In Cedar Grove.
It's weird that I like these kinds of places, because, even though they are brick face buildings, you can littarly(sp?) see the pain, desperation, and despair,
as if it was painted on the front walls.
Being that you read the magazine,
I am sure you heard of Annies Road.
I've been there once with a few friends,
and it's odd that the red stuff actually
(glows) on the gaurdrails, and the black pavement. If anyone wants to know the history of this story, speak up, I'll tell.
There is this one Mansion somewhere in
NJ, and I have to check one of the earlier mags for the name of this place,
but it looks like it has some twisted history attached to the place.
When I find it, I will scan it in.
Mucho creepy, and cool.
I only passed Greystone Psychiatric Hospital once, where legendary singer
Woodie Guthry spent some time,
recouperating.
You're right though, I am lucky that
I live in this state. As I said, if it
wasn't for this magazine, I'd hate
living here.

Yeah, I've got a few issues and I live in Trenton so I've been to a few places. Up at the top of Jersey in West Milford is a crazy place to go. There's a lot of stuff up there like Clinton Road, which can actually be dangerous because of satanic cults in the woods so it's a cool thrill at night. It's a very thin road two miles long around a resivour with lots of curves and if I remember right, most of it isn't paved. Also, the whole Jersey Devil thing always interests me, because my great great great great great grandfather Gerimiah Leeds founded Atlantic City(Leeds Point) and was supposedly a bit of an outcast so the towns people made up his 13th child was the Devil. So I guess technically if the JD does exist he's my uncle.

New Jersey is boring? WTF do y'all want in a home state? You're near Philly, New York, and DC. You've got Great Adventure and the Boardwalk. Atlantic City. Beaches. Mountains up north. The Big Four professional sports teams within an hour's drive of wherever you are. Jersey gods like Bon Jovi and the Boss. New Jersey has produced more celebrities than any other place on Earth. Where else is there a Haddonfield and a Crystal Lake? Where's your hometown pride? Just think of those who live in the square-state flyovers, and you'll realize how fortunate y'all are.
Of course, I can say all this because I no longer live there. You miss the Garden State when you move out of it.

Well, yeah, NJ is boring,
but like I said, this magazine
makes it living here all the
more worth while.
So I no longer see it
as boring. Just prefer
that I live in the country
rather then this small
town surrounded by
Newark. I'm a country boy
at heart.
Seriously, the most fun
my town has had, was
most recently when
a factory burned down,
atleast no one was hurt
though. The whole town
was on my block staring
at it. We must be stuck in
the dark ages, eh?
You are right though,
I hear alot of people that
lived in this state, who moved,
wish they were back in good ol' NJ.
Let me retract the NJ is boring statement, it's my town that is severly
boring.
I have a lot to do, now
that I know where the
local haunts are, even if
some may be 20 to 40 miles away.
