I listened to heroes by david bowie, and i was thinking that it sounds a lot like the winston/julia relationship in 1984. I know that bowie loved the book, and that diamond dogs was mostly about it, but is the song "heroes" the same?

I always thought it was about two lovers living on different sides of the Berlin wall.

I view it as a song about forbidden love. The whole wall thing was used as symbolism for two people torn apart by people who don't want them to be togther. The subjects of the song in my eyes pretty much say fuck you to their peers and fall even more deeply in love and become "Heroes" to themselves and others in the same situation. I never viewed them as being anywhere specific or anyone in particular.

I think I always just thought Berlin because that's where he recorded it. I'm probably wrong. Your explanation sounds pretty damn plausable.
