Halloween is a given, but what else?
I know I make it a point to watch the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series, as well as The Candyman and the Simpsons Halloween specials every October.
I heard that there is a DVD of all of the Simpsons Halloween specials, is this true?
Oh, and Tales from the Crypt. That show is hilarious.

Kind of, it has 4 of them: 5,6,7, and 12. I have it, paid $10 for it at Best Buy. No special features, but it's well worth it.

Best halloween special ever.
Damn right. When's this ever gonna get released on DVd/Vidzeo?
I personally enjoy indulging in a few of Carpenter's better pics, last year it was The Fog and Prince of Darkness and of course the obligatory Halloween and a handful of othe JC flicks. This year I am at a stand still- I'm running out of flicks! So to solve my problems and avoid another stressful visit to my neo-nazi facist "mom and pop" vodeo store(fullscreen dvds... the horror, the horror) I will be buying NOTHING but horror movies on Dvd.... so, once the scary flicks are built into submission.... I strike.
Here's my working list:
The Howling
An American Werewolf in London
The Fog (rented a washed out tape last year... ugh)
The Frighteners
Halloween( my brother bought the new Dvd just yesterday, only problem is- he's a good nine hours away. CURSES!)
Donnie Darko
Near Dark
The Lost Boys
Phantasm
House of 1000 Corpses
Return of the Living Dead
Evil Dead
JC's The Thing
and
Night of the Living Dead
Yes, I know, I can't watch all of these in one night, but gimee a break- it's a work in progress.

THE LOST BOYS!! I cannot believe I left that out! Corey Feldman and Keifer Sutherland shine in this.
I also remembered that Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow makes a very enjoyable flick for Halloween, as well as being a great representation of American Folklore.
If you want to go the comedic route, Transylvania 6-500, Beetleguice, and Hocus Pocus are great to watch. But in horror, there haven't really been any additional great chillers for Halloween since the 1980's.
While on the subject of Halloween, does anyone know what they're going as? I've decided to be Freddy Krueger (albeit a female version). Many people ask me why, and my reply is that other than Carrie, there are no supreme female horror icons.

Gotta agree with The Claw and Dignan, Garfield is the best. I love the Garfield Halloween Special. I taped it a long time ago. I watch it every Halloween.
I also watch AMC movies and any other Horror related special/movie that interests me. I have the Monster Mania DVDs as well as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre documentary, I will be watching those.
Halloween & Halloween II I definitely watch every Halloween.
I usually try to watch at least one movie from each of horror's subgenres each Halloween. Haven't put my list together yet for this year.
Have more horror DVDs to buy

Now that Roseanne is on Nick At Night, I'm praying for an Halloween marathon of all the Roseanne Halloween ones. If it wasn't for that stupid Jerry Garcia episode, Roseanne would be right up their with The Treehouse Of Horror episodes as the best Halloween episodes.

That Garfield Halloween episode is great! I really wish that they would start showing that again. It was my all time favorite!
Otherwise I always watch The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. And those haunted house specials on The Travel Channel.

Well this year I am going to be in a theatre watching a re-release of Alien.
Otherwise it is the usual fodder I watch.
I can't believe nobody's said...

Thank you, Jess! HOCUS POCUS is the fucking shiznit! Not the best Halloween movie ever, but definitely a fun ride, and perfect for getting you in the Halloween "mood".
As for my list, well, I always start out the month with a viewing of DAWN OF THE DEAD, followed shortly by Tom Savini's remake of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. A few days later, I'll watch JC's THE FOG, followed by HALLOWEEN III and FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3. About the middle of the month, I'll watch HALLOWEEN IV and V on AMC, then pop in my Collector's Edition DVD of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. In the last week of the month, I'll watch GREMLINS 2 (the original is too Christmas-oriented), followed by GHOSTBUSTERS, RE-ANIMATOR, THE BLOB (remake), LIFEFORCE, and INVADERS FROM MARS (remake). On Halloween, I'll be home all day, giving me plenty of time to watch THE HOWLING, HALLOWEEN I AND II, PHANTASM, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, JC's THE THING, and a plethora of videos I'll be renting that night.
You see, for me, the entire month of October is a celebration of horror, and everything scary. Why confine all the fun to one night, right?

Ahhh October...the best month of them all.
But my obsessive nostalgia actually starts to kick in around mid-September. That's when my pining for old episodes of Real People (I'm really aging myself here) and In Search Of takes it's toll and I start to drag all my audio-recorded and old videos of taped tv shows. Yes, I actually AUDIO taped tv episodes in the early 70's- hey man, we was too poor for beta. But listening to old Halloween episodes of cheesy 70's shows really forces you to use your imagination.
My favorite Halloween tv haunts that I drag out EVERT frickin' year:
1/ audio of Real People episode from October 1979. Real people had the BEST stories on real hauntings, freaks, Halloween events, and people EVER. On the same tape I have audio taped commercials of The Shining I taped as part of a campaign to make my parents take me to the damn movie. Hey, I was 10.
2/ It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Hell, this one always brings a tear to my eye. Ahhh, I can smell the pumpkin patch now...*sigh* pardon me
3/A collage of an episode of an old Vicki Lawrence talk show with Brinke Stevens and some wiccans, 1991 Horror Hall of Fame tv show, Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller, and some old Roseanne episodes.
4/Halloween. Duh.
5/TLC and Travel Channel docs on haunted places, evetns, people.
I have to go now, my vcr is calling
