View Full Version : Not caring about other schmoes opinions because they are an infant/junior schmoe
someguy

I'm just curious on this because I've noticed in threads that infant, junior or sometimes senior schmoes opinions don't matter to others. They don't flat out say it but I can tell when it happens. I've seen it happen with a schmoe about a couple of months ago who was completely ignored because they were an infant schmoe. Now that schmoe is a super schmoe and almost everyone will reply to what they said and such.
So I'm questioning that if we're having a respect basis on here? Do we start to respect this schmoe more that he/she is in a higher rank? Do we ignore or treat the infant and junior schmoes badly because they don't have much experience on the boards? I'm just asking if anyone is doing this and if anything has been done for it since I'm noticing it a couple of times lately.

I agree. So what if your new, that doesn't make you any different. What does post count matter? I post on this board to discuss movies, not to become a "king of all schmoes".
The infant and juniors deserve the same respect anyone else gets.

This is especially prevalent in topics about upcoming movies, in which the Schmoe has only posted 1-50 posts and says they have seen the movie before it has been released. Just because someone has posted a few time sdoesn't make them less trustworthy...remember, you were a little schmoe too. Even in the past year or so, some Senior or above Schmoes have committed treacherous acts (Plagerism being #1).

I personally pay no attention to someone's rank or how many posts they've accumulated. Many of these people that rack up so many post's so quick are just voting on things in movie tournaments and what not. How many posts you have has absolutely no correlation to how much you know about movies, sports, music, tv, ect.
I am probably am guilty though of paying closer attention to posts that are posted by people that I'm friends with or talk to alot. This is just human nature though, you're absolutely going to respond more to people that you know or have things in common with, I don't see the problem. If this bothers people I think they are being a bit immature and way too sensitive. If you start trying to exclude people from conversations or threads, than that is a different topic all together. I do have a problem with that.
I'm sure no one will read this because I never post in the site/suggestion forum or the rant. :p :D
If you want to get to know people and have them respond to you, private message them and talk with them that way. This board just has way too many posters to expect people to know who you are.

Its not about how many posts they have.. sheesh, THE CLAW has ten thousand posts, for crying out loud(kidding, Mike)!
Its more of an issue of trust. If I KNOW someone's taste then I'll take a review/plug more seriously. nothin wrong with that.

We're all Schmoes, we're all the same, whether we have 1 post or 9,000. I know it sounds preachy said like that, but hey, we've had Infant Schmoes say smarter things than we "old" Schmoes usually say. :)

I agree with PapaJupe2K. We tend to talk with the schmoes that we have more relation with. That is only reached by posting numerous times and being some time around. But i don't exclude the little schmoes per se. At least consciously.

Another quick point here. Just because someone doesn't respond to a comment, it doesn't mean they haven't read it or respected that person's views. Somtimes there is just nothing more to add.
Like I said, some people are being way too sensitive here.

I respond to anything and anyone if I can be arsed...but my tolerance of a new Schmoe talking shit is VERY low. I know one or two newbies who are already pushing there luck, commenting on how such and such is a 'homo' or whatever, then arguing with Senior Schmoes who point out exactly why that kind of shit isn't tolerated here. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes not (John Dark was very offensive, but also really amusing at times), but I'd rather that, until they establish the essence and vibe of the place, they restrain their silly comments...
Still, what do I know? If I had joined this year, and not a year and hal ago, I'd have been banned seventeen times by now.

At times, I really, really want to just disrespect the hell ouf of 'newbies'. I think its just instinct. They come in outta nowhere, throw thier 'weight' around, and expect to get treated nicely. Most of them dont post constructively, but its all part of a growing experience. I remember when I was a newbie (back in my day......) I was quite immature. I remember stumbling upon a Kevin Smith thread and practically creaming my jeans because I was a huge Kevin Smith fan at the time and thought it was the perfect thread. Then something happen. Over the years (yes, im old, almost 3 years now, not as old as some, like GREBDRON! SCORE! Always room for a 'Greb is old' joke!) I grew (a little) and learnt good from my fellow schmoes, and am now a respected member of the site (yeah right, everyone hates me, im just waiting for that perfect moment when I can finally......).
So....im lost, I dont even know what I was trying to say anymore. Something about trying to not lose my cool sometimes over newbies, but that Greb joke just through me off track and now I cant focus. Damn you Greb. Damn you. ;)

I haven't really noticed this, but it might be true.
Personally I don't even notice anymore how many posts schmoes have. It should also be noted that many schmoes who have only a couple of posts do a lot of "lurking". I know, because I've been a long time lurker on a couple of other boards.

One of the really stupid things around here is how so many people continually start up threads regarding post counts just so they can discuss how much they think post counts don't/shouldn't really matter to anyone. Well, if it honestly doesn't matter to you, then why keep bringing it up in thread after thread just to beat it to death again. Frankly, I wish this site didn't even keep track of it. I think it would result in fewer stupidity posts.

I don't rate anyone 'higher' or 'lower' by post count.
If anything, I find it more impressive when someone doesn't have as many posts as expected after the amount of time that they've been a member. It probably means they spend their time making points and being effective and selective with their posts.
You can make reply after reply after reply with one or two sentence posts, and get your count up real quick.
But do you spend the time to make constructive posts, instead of doing something like this:

I agree with you totally on that one. Polanski is a no-talent pedophiliactic hack.
That's not constructive! But it's one more post, right? That much closer to King of the Schmoes!
That's what pisses me off! I have been here for over a year, and reading the forums for a year before that, and I only have like 1000 posts or so. Then there are others who have been here a few months and already have like 2500+ posts, but all you see from them are two sentence answers from every post I read by them.
So instead of having the pleasure of reading OPINIONS that are backed up by REASONS for that opinion, I get a fluffy, pointless post that is the main reason for me NOT READING OTHER CHAT FORUMS.
I ranted. Forgive me.
I don't disrespect a schmoe just because they're an Infant or Junior Schmoe. I've been a readings the forums of Jobo since 2001, but I been POSTING since 2002. I love this place because most of the schmoes around here like to post things that have weight behind it, and spamming is at a minimum. Like I said before, I love you Joblo.

Totally with you on the 'post count' thingamajiggy KC. You'll notice i've been here almost 3 years now and im just now closing in on 3,000 posts. It doesnt take a smarty pants to realize that thats equal to 1,000 posts a year. There are some people who have been here since like June that have almost as many posts as I do because when they reply to stuff they only type a sentence or two, or, even worse, one or two words. A lot of them dont even focus on the topic at hand.
I try my best not to 'pick on' infant schmoes, but they are mostly the worst at doing this. That and blatantly not following the rules. Its hard to refrain from being a meany sometimes damn it!

Hey, as long as a schmoe, senior, infant, or junior, posts their opinions intelligently, I respect them. Those infant schmoes who act up are sent to my King's castle to work as manual labor.
