There is NO point in buying movies!! Its a waste of money. If you want to see a movie more then once just rent it.Its way cheaper.and anyways once you ssee a movie once you know whats going to happen so its not as good the second time.Does anyone agree with me?

No. No one agrees with you.

Ok, but seriously...

First of all, you're WRONG. It's more expensive to be constantly renting a movie than to just buy it.

Second of all, many people (including me) like to rewatch their favorite movies.

I mean, it's like music. Going by your logic, if I hear a song on the radio, that's it. I shouldn't be hearing it again.

And movies that don't get good the second time are generally not that good to begin with. So you don't buy them.

Pretty basic stuff.

Also I'm often sitting round the house and I'll think "I wanna watch The Rock" being 3 o'clock in the afternoon there is no way this is going to be on the telly and I'm not going to walk all the way down the video shop where they wont have it and then walk back with Bridget Jones' Diary or something.

DVD's changed the way that people watch movies at home. Most DVD's have a lot of extra stuff that warrants multiple viewings. Director's commentary makes a second viewing more interesting, many special features such as making of featurettes and behind the scenes stuff make owning a DVD a better choice than just renting, Often if is is a two disc set you might not get the second disc from a rental. DVD's are better and they are the best thing that has happened to home movies.

It's a hobbie.

Just like collecting stamps, baseball cards, etc. etc.

Even if I wanted to rent any of the movies I own, I'd be out of luck because a good 80% (and probably more) of my movies seem to be constantly unavailable in any video shop within 1000 miles of where I live!

As any of the UK Scmoes will attest, you don't often find Opera (Special Edition), Nightmare on Elm Street 6 (with 3D glasses!), any of the Halloweens, Texas Chainsaw Massacres, Friday 13ths or animated Spawns on the video shelves of our fair isle!

And besides, with special editions, by the time I've paid the retal fees to have the DVD out for the time needed to watch all of the extra features, I might as well have bought it!

Oh, and the most important thing - a healthy DVD collection looks GREAT on your shelves!

This is a joke, yes?
There is a point to buying movies: it means that whenever you want to see a particular film, you can.
Plus I take good care of my dvd's, rental stores do not, they are often scratched, sometimes unplayable, call me crazy but I'd rather know that the disc is going to work.

I also completely disagree with you on multiple viewings.Watching films more than once can reveal things you didn't notice before, or even make you look at the film in a completely different way (as in fight club).

Actually, I agree with you BondFan2. I have had my DVD player since Christmas. I have bought 2 DVDs. Caddyshack & The 6th Day. They are really expensive in Canada and it's hard to pull together the money when your a teen. I rent movies all the time but I rarely buy them. I will, in fact, be picking up Peal Harbor Director's Cut though.

Well, I mean, you don't have to buy EVERY movie. I love watching movies, but I have like 13 in my collection. And it's not going to get much bigger throughout the year.

I think there is a point to buying movies, but only movies you cant find anywhere, and are for sale only, and you really want to see them, i'll only buy a movie ive seen, and its easily found if i really really enjoyed watching it. you gotta see some movies arent easily found and you might hafta buy em, now i'll end this long boring, post now.

I agree, it's a hobby, especially when you finally find that hard to find DVD that you'd been searching for forever.

I've watched Chasing Amy over 10 times. Going by your logic, since I know what happens, it should no longer be a good movie.

Or by Blockbuster's prices, I would have spent almost 50 dollars renting it, whereas I bought it for 20.

I usually rewatch movies on a whim, so it's nice to have my favorite movies within reach at all times. Tonight, for example, I popped in The Game. I rarely rent movies I've already seen, so I would've been SOL this evening.

if you're really cheap you can just steal dvd's instead of buying or renting

Collecting movies is a lot more interesting than collecting Beanie Babies, or baseball cards. If you don't like movies enough to collect them, then what are you doing posting on a Movie Site?

Oh, brother.. What kind of STUPID question is this?! It's the same as buying Music. If you like something enough you would want to watch/listen to it over and over..

I buy my movies at Blockbuster when they are like $7 http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Buying movies is a hobby and for the convenience of watching them whenever you want. Try to find a video store open at 3 in the morning. I believe that my DVD collecting habit may have gotten out of hand as I own over 500 DVD's. Anyone know of a special clinic for people who spend too much money on movies? Anyone?
