You are an ignorant anti-intellectual. It requires just a molecule of intelligence to understand it.

:p

I think this guy had a good interpretation of it:

I spent an entire night with a pen and paper, watching this over and over, taking notes.

The next day I wrote a three page essay on it.
I have a logical explanation for every scene, every character, every event, et cetera.

Understanding that movie (with my own theory, anyways) is the best feeling in the world for a film-buff.

The whole movie is based around the fact that David Lynch doesn't know what the fuck he's doing. Oh, and that he's a dirty old man, too. :D

I personally think the movie isnt supposed to make sense. Its all very dream like.

Basically I haven't got a fucking clue! :)

It does make perfect sense, mate. Jon Lyrik posted a link for a dudes interpretation and it will clear the cloud in your head.

It actually pisses me off when people stamp this film as dumb just because they can't figure it out. You have to dig for the meaning people...it's a good challenge and it's scary that films like this are hardly made.

What's really scary is the fact that a lot of people hate David Lynch just because he isn't doing the same mainstream, popcorn stuff that all the other studio's are pumping out.
It's as if people don't want to consider film a form of art anymore.

I never said the movie was dumb, I thouroghly enjoyed it and have it on DVD its just my opinion that its not supposed to make sense. I read that link before and yes it clears somethings up but I still stand by my interpretation.

Thats what it comes down to :)

I love this movie. It's so fucked up, but it actually makes sense when you think about it...a lot.

It DOES perfect sence, but it plays with non linear chronological order and a blur between dream and reality. Of you put everything in order, you won't have a problem. I know I already have it all in my head. And I feel proud of it.

I wasn't reffering you to thinking the film was dumb. Just I've heard some other schomes say it. If you reckon it's not meant to make sense then so be it. I don't even think Lynch knows exactly what he was doing.

Fair do's, fair do's :)

Thanks all.

I now kinda nearly maybe sorta think I might just understand it.

But what the fuck is with the blue box?

I guess the blue box was a key to reality and fantasy, or Diane's misery. Or maybe all three.

The blue box is symbolic of the murder.
When Betty/Diane talks with the hit-man, he tells her she'll find a blue key when it's over. When she asks what it unlocks, he laughs.
The blue key "unlocks" the blue box.
