I went to see this movie last week and I expected it to suck. I had heard it was boring before I saw it so that's what I was expecting. But I was pleasantly surprised. It had some sucky moments and some of the jokes that were supposed to be funny just weren't. But it didn't put me asleep and after the slow start it moved along at a nice pace. I'm a Julia Roberts fan so I mainly saw it for her because man is she a cutie, I don't care what anyone says, she's a very good actress.
And she didn't disappoint me. She looked cute throughout the whole movie and I liked her. Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta Jones, and John Cusack all did good jobs in this movie. The only ones I didn't think were that great were Billy Crystal and Seth Green. Billy Crystal was great in When Harry Met Sally but he just wasn't that great in this movie. A lot of the parts where he was trying to be funny didn't work, a couple things he said got me to laugh but for the most part he wasn't funny.
Catherine Zeta Jones had me laughing. I always think it's funny to see bossy, bitchy, self absorbed chicks. And she did a good job at acting like bitch.
Julia Roberts is lovely as always and I smiled when she smiled. I liked her character and wanted her to be happy. Which is a good thing for a romantic comedy.
I've always liked John Cusack, he starred in one of my favorite 80's teen flicks, "Better Off Dead." He did a good job here to.
Overall, America's Sweethearts could have been better, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse too. I'm happy with what I got, especially since I went in expecting to be bored. It was a "cute" movie. I think I'll probably check it out again on video.
Grade: 7/10
