View Full Version : Movie ticket prices...how much for you?

Lately I've seen alot of people upset about the movie ticket prices in there area. So I was just wondering what the prices were for everyone, and where you live at also...

I live in Washington State, here are my prices...

Matinee - $5.00
Late showing - $7.50

Honestly, this is very cheap for me, 5 bucks for a movie is NOTHING, and if I miss the matinee it doesn't bother me because 7.50 isn't bad neither...

My best friend just moved to California, he says the matinee is $8.50!!! The late showing is obviously more then that, but can't remember what he said. I guess everything is more expensive in Cali compared to Washington the lonely state...

So how much are tickets for you, and where do you live?

In Murcia:

Matinees, late night showings and with a student's card: $3.30
Rest of ocasions: $5.20

It's one of the cheapest cities in Spain for cinema tickets. But it's also one of the less rich...

Matinee - $6.00
Night - $7.75

Not too bad at all, very reasonable for me.

Edit - I just looked it up, and I was off by 25 cents on the night price.

The average price is 8.50, but I pay 5.00 or 5.50 when I pay.

If you join the Brattle Street Theater Foundation in Boston (60.00 a year) all your movies are 5.50 at that and a few other locations, plus you get discounts at Newbury Comics, and a few other local businesses. I also get promotional screening passes, but not as many as the big important people like Joblo and Ty Burr and Roger Ebert. It's tough to be a peon.

My local theater, south of Boston, is owned by very cool people, and they sell ticket packets of 5 for 25 bucks. I buy 100.00-200.00 worth at a time (that's 20 to 40 tickets), and the management has been generous about giving me extras.

In the city (Boston) the price of a ticket goes up a bit-- between 9 and 10 bucks.

$6, $4 if you're under 12 or over 65 years of age. And on Monday nights and matinees (if they have them which is rare) it's only $3.

Depends where and when I go. If I go to the Touchwood cinemas on a Sunday it's something like £2.80 (seriously!), but if I were to go to UGC or Showcase it's something like £5-£6

I never go to the matinee, but I'm sure it's about $5.00-$5.75.

I personally can't remember ever having to pay more than $6.00 because of student prices.

Not that bad then, I always see people complain about a movie and say something like "Thats the worse 10 dollars I've spent" I'm just like...shit...

With those type of prices, I don't blame ya. I probably should go to the second-run theatres more often. The closest one only charges $2-3. :)

Some might call that a rip-off for second-run tickets (I hear some 2R places only charge $0.99 ), but around here and for me it is bliss.

The price raises two times a year so next month it should go up a quarter.

Hometown - (Anywhere from 2-3 movies being shown on two screens)

Matinee - 1.75

After 5 pm - 4.00

Multiplex 30 miles away next to the mall - (Around 10 screens with 15 films usually)

Matinee - 2.00

After 6 pm - 4.00

Take heed that neither is a very clean theater, and that the popcorn is usually stale at best. Not to mention jacked up food prices.

Here's something to make it stop; it used to be a three-screener and mainly got second-run releases, i.e. LEAVE IT TO BEAVER four months after it opened.

Movies are so DAMN expensive in NorCal.

I just moved from SF to Minneapolis, prices here are $4.00/Matinee, $6/regular on average. A little higher in newer theaters.

Depending on which cinema I go to (same prices all the time):
Hoyts (Hollywood movies) - $11.00 (13.50 without my student card)
Nova (foreign and independent films) - $9.50 ($5.00 on Mondays)
Westgarth (mostly smaller movies, but gets them weeks after the bigger cinemas) - $8.00 approx.

Bloody expensive huh?

Basically they're all 8.50 in the theaters near me. There are no matinée prices, because, well...there are no matinee shows. Except maybe some kids' films that they show earlier, and which are cheaper too. But not really anything for me.

Odeon: £4.00 for adults
Warner Bros: £5.50 for adults

As you can see I usually go to Odeon, but not only because its cheaper but because its nearer to me :p. But both prices seem reasonable to me.

All prices CDN

Main Theatre:
Regular Night - $10.25
Cheap Night - $6.50
Matinee - $8.00

Cheap Theatre (usually get movies in a month to two months later):
Always 2 for 1
Regular Night - $5.75
Cheap Night - $3.50
Matinee - $2.50 (which are usually 3 for 1)

So needless to say unless it's a movie I wanna see really bad I usually wait for the cheap theatre.
