Big Trouble In Little China. This was on FX today, it looked interesting, though i didnt have time to watch it. im thinking about maybe renting it, only because its the only carpenter flick i havent seen. So i figured i should ask everyone if this is any good. even though it looked cheesy as hell, the only thing that really intrigued me was the pairing of carpenter and russel once more. well, what did you think?

Great movie and easily a very enjoyable film. Although it's pretty cheesy, it's still fun to watch. A sequal is in the works and I recommend you seeing this one. There's really nothing to lose anyways.

It is a very entertaining movie, fast pace, enjoyable and humoristic.
However don't expect to see a bad ass Kurt Russel, no this time is a real moron but he's still likable.

For some reason, my most vivid memory of this film is when Russell shouts the line "Sonovabitch must pay!"
Dont know why. It just sticks with me. Overall, a really fun flick.

I've heard nothing of a sequel being worked on. Could you point to your sources? If it is true it is definitely good news.

The sequel rumor was debunked a few months back.

I hated it the first time i saw it, i then tried watching it another 2 times after that but couldnt...
since i love Carpenters other films so much i gave this another chance and i loved it, very funny, loads of action, some nice effects, cheesy acting and a lot of fun

Friggin awesome movie, def one of Carpenter's top 5 flicks made. Plus the great is in it, kurt russell with some sweet one liner's "it's all in the reflexes." A sweet karate war in an alleyway, sweet creature/character designs, music, and story. I'd say it's prob his 3rd best flick under the thing and halloween

Cult shouldn't have a sequel.

Its a really fun film, with very likable characters and mid-air sword fights. A japanese ghost story mixed with some fantasy elements, magic, ghosts, monsters...and to top it all off its directed by our buddy Jhon Carpenter.
Check out this thread (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57384&highlight=little+china) for my review on it and this thread (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58380&highlight=little+china) for som info on the supposed sequel that got a little buzz a while back. Too bad it was just a buzz, I would have loved to see this made!

Great great funny movie, Kurt Russell rules and Johnny Carp is the man. Jack Burton is definetley an underrated bad ass hero of the 80's, deseves to mention with other names like John Meclane, Martin Riggs, Snake Plisskin, John Matrix, among other's. Lo Pan makes for a memorable bad guy, and Victor Wong and Dennis Dun also shine.

Well its not exactly a horror movie, but it does have monsters, ghosts and chinese black magic...so I guess it does qualify to be in here. :D

LOL, you know I loooove that song, but the video for it is mega mega funny! Its Jhon Carpenter playing the bass and singing the lirics! I think hes the one who goes "Biiiiig trouble..." LOL
The Bands name is "The Coupes Deville", the video has really crappy production values and just plain sucks, but its good for a laugh and the song kicks all sorts of ass.

The funny part about that inthe sing is the dude with the high voice doing the 'litttttttle chiiiiinnnaaa'' part is Nick Castle, who played Mike Myers in the first Halloween

Awesome flick. One of Carpenter's best works. I can admire Carpenter because he doens't just focus on the domina that made him famous, and this little gem proves that he can make something truly great without repeating himself again and again.
Big Trouble in Little China- 9/10

A fantastic film, and one of the best of its kind. The cast was just great, especially Russell and Dennis Dun. It was fun that if you really thought about it, Russell was playing the sidekick (messes things up, and in his own words "i'm starting to feel like an outsider here") while Dun was the hero (knew the area, the kung fu, what have ya.
Another great score by Alan Howarth and John Carpenter, plus the end song by the Coupe de Villes.
Great action, especially at a time before all the Matrix-type films were made. Old school martial arts is cool.
Has to be Russell's best performance, and the best part of the film is the humor and dialogue. This has got to be one of those few films where you can't help but repeat the dialogue over and over again because it's so cool.
"We really shook the pillars of heaven didn't we?"
"No bullshit Jack."
"No bullshit."
OR
"I'm not scared at all. I actually kinda feel... invincible." (Those who've seen the flick must remember that scene.)
All in all, a 10 out of 10.
