I played this game on a ps 1 when it first came out.I reallly liked the game as it was something new. Then like three years later the movie comes out and I hear it sucks so I never go see it.Well yesterday I rent the dvd and i have to say it was a decent movie but WOW WOW the laser scene was freakin awesome.I watched three times before i really caught it all.But I'm still wondering why it didn't cut up the gear on the floor in the bag? Those special effects where really great!!!

Well here's my take on Resident Evil: It made for an entertaining sci-fi/adventure but as a zombie/horror film it was extremely weak.

Personally, I was let down by the laser scene. It's derivative of Cube, and I'm not a proponent of CGI gore to begin with. Anderson should have went all out with the bloodletting.

I really enjoyed it, quite a bit of gore, im still waiting for the directors cut though,

great soundtrack, shame about the CGI at the end though, that was pretty bad, other than that i really liked it

9/10

Was it just me or was the editing kinda off at times? I dunno, about the CG, i didnt think it was overused or even weak. The only thing i really didnt like was the fact that in the laser scene they killed half of the people. they shoulda saved some for the zombies dammit! Oh and there was practically no similarities to the game. i mean the mansion might have looked cool, but it didnt look like the mansion from the game. And even though the music rocked, it was definately not from the game. Its still one of the better vid to flick movies out there, despite some issues. And the DVD Is great.

Worst Zombie film ever. I've seen more gore from a cut finger then in this movie.

I've said this many times, I loved this movie! Could have used a lot more blood and gore but hey, it was pretty good IMO.

And for the hundredth thousandth time....it was a PREQUEL to the games. That's why half the shit that was in the movie wasn't in the games. :)

When exactly is the director's cut supposed to come out? Man how long is it supposed to take.

EvilDeadGirl, i understand its a prequel, i meant that it simply didnt capture the games atmosphere. The filmakers without a doubt didnt play enough of the games to know what was really going on to set up a suitable prequel. Way to much science fiction stuff, hardly any visual references to the game. thats all i meant. but nobody can complain though, afterall, the games are made in japan, the movie was made by Americans and in Germany of all places. And another thing, has anybody considered the fact that this is a movie based off a game which is in turn, inspired by the old school night of the living dead? sorta ironic the filmakers would make it so sci fi/modern. And a shame too, Romero would have ruled!

All I have to say is, loved the first, can't wait for the second!

I would have loved to see what Romero would have done to RE. But alas that is not going to happen.

Stormy Waters, I agree with you on some aspects. Sure it wasn't as creepy as the game, but it did contain some of the creepy elements. For Example when they all first enter the hive and come to the water logged labs. The Nemisis (Can't think of his name at the moment) guy is stairing up at the air ducts and you can hear the faint moans of the zombies. I thought that was pretty creepy. The same goes for the click of the dogs nails upon the floor, hearing them before you see the creature. I thought the directors did a pretty good job here. But hey, thats jes' me! :)

There were two things that bothered me, one was when the computer said that "Hair and fingernails continue to grow after you die" if she's a computer she would know that that info was untrue, as well as the laser room, why wouldn't they just send the net?

we that's all for now

Disappointing.

Considering the game it came from, it could've been so much better.

The games were pretty creepy and had some scary moments but the movie didn't have any of that.

I bet the sequel is going to be soooo much better. I can't wait to see the nemesis guy brake out of skin and all the zombies around the blown up city.

That will be awesome to see. I personally think that RE2 and RE3 the games would make a much better film than the first game. I think what they should've done is make the first film based on RE2 and 3, then make the second film based on Code Veronica, and then have the third film be based on either the most recent resident evil or a completely original idea altogher.

It had so much to work with, ignored alot and came out terrible to the sereis. If it wasnt based on the game it would have been fine. This is where the sequal will easily improve.
One thing i loved about re was the ending! I LUV empty citties!

Steps all over romero movies??? What you talking about willis??? Romero's zombie films actually had originality and characterization. Hell Resident Evil wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for Romero.
