This is maybe one of the best backwoods slashers have seen.
In fact it has more in common with Deliverance than F13th, it is as far as that to be honest.
The pace is really really slow but the film has a lot of atmosphere and the wild setting is well used and well depicted.
The characters do not look stupid and they are believable, too.
The bodycount is weak but it is not really a slasher movie with a lot of dead, it focuses more on the setting and on the characters.
The score is atmospheric and calm and it works for me, effective.
It is not very gory ( I own the uncut version but believe me it is bloodless ) but I repeat the film focuses more on the atmosphere, so.
Some good scenes, never boring for me, a must - see survival.
9/10

I love this flick, I have a bootleg of it at the moment but will be getting the dvd as soon as it comes out. I have heard Synapse will be bringing it out.

This is one of the BEST 80`s slashers.
Great atmosphere, a creepy moody score (I love the 'bird calls' the killer makes), and the killer is mucho spooky.

So this is supposed to be coming to DVD? Cool, I can`t wait!

I was almost scared going in... Jeff Lieberman, of SQUIRM fame, didn't really do it for me. I gotta say, though, it held up really freaking well.

Mucho suspense and, at times, it seemed verry realistic.

I loooooved the blonde chick.. Kinda reminded me of a younger, boobier Louise Fletcher.

I have searched the length and breadth of the internet in an attempt to locate a copy of this much revered horror flick.

Judging by the many positive comments from schmoes I think the DVD will be well worth the wait!.

One of the best obscure gems from the early 80's, JUST BEFORE DAWN was scary as hell at times and boasted breathtaking scenery and likable characters/actors! Plus, ya can't go worng with a George Kennedy cameo! The truly shocking ending is also a keeper!

**Possible Spoiler**

I did read an article a while ago now, concerning JBFD which described a scene involving a fist and a gullet?.

Niiice!.
