Has anyone seen this movie?
I heard it is a good haunted house flick. I think it is from the 70's.
Let me know your opinions on it if you saw it.
Thanks!

SPOILERS CONTAINED
I haven't seen this one in awhile.
Good haunted flick you say?
I can tell ya is either RENT this before deciding if you wanna buy the movie.
The pacing of the movie is VERY slow as I recall. The movie stars Karen Black, the late Oliver Reed <-He always creeped me out and fits perfectly in this movie! And the late Bette Davis starred in the movie also.
Strange things happen in the house. A hearse or car drives up the stairs and kills Bette Davis, Karen Black's personality changes and Oliver Reed the husband has no clue why & the mysterious Mrs Allydice? (sp?) who lives upsatirs.
The best part is the ending. When the shit finally hits the fan the family is about to leave, but Karen Black wants to check on the lady upstairs. And well I dont wanna ruin the rest....:D
SPOILER CONTAINED END

I love this movie and the DVD. I especially like the commentary on the DVD. It is of Dan Curtis, Karen Black and some other guy I do not remember. Dan Curtis is funny he just comes off as a cranky old bastard. Karen is very informative for example she is Five months preggers in this movie with her son Hunter. He was the little blonde boy from Invaders From Mars. Anyway her wardrobe designer did such a good job covering up her belly that you can only really notice a bulge in certain scenes but only if you are looking for them. This DVD is only ten dollars so if you do buy it and find you do not like it you can always sell it and you would not be out much. I say it is worth it but if you are going to rent it, rent the dvd.

I saw this movie when I was pretty young. I was having trouble learning to swim, and this movie totally scared me about swimming pools...

I saw this movie when I was a kid and I thought it was kind of boring.
My wife recently bought me the DVD. I watched it the other night and was pleasantly suprised. I love the atmosphere of Burnt Offerings.
It's a different twist on the haunted house tale. Like others have stated here- rent it before you buy it!

Burnt Offerings, is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Marasco. The film is about the Rolfe family. The husband and father is named Benjamin, the wife and mother is named Marion, and the son is named David. The Rolfes come from their apartment in New York, and they find a nice country mansion on Long Island, that is seeking tenants for the summer. They meet with the owners of the house who are very eccentric and soon the Rolfes are the tenants of the house. Benjamin, also brings his aunt Elizabeth, to stay with them at the house. Marion, starts to take care of the house and feeds the old lady upstairs that was left with the house while everyone else uses the house for their amusement. Soon weird things start happening at the house and each of them start acting a little strange and soon it becomes clear to them that they must leave the house. Winner of The Golden Scroll Award for Best Director, Best Horror Film and Best Supporting Actress (Bette Davis, who plays Aunt Elizabeth) at The Academy Of Science Fiction, Fantasy And Horror Films and The Medalla Sitges En Oro De Ley Award for Best Director and The Medalla Sitges En Plata De Ley Award for Best Actor (Burgess Meredith, who plays Arnold Allardyce (who is the weird brother who owns the house) and Best Actress (Karen Black, who plays Marion Rolfe) at The Catalonian International Film Festival. Burnt Offerings, has good direction, a good screenplay, good performances from everybody involved, good film editing, good production design and set decoration. Burnt Offerings, is well conceived and has a very interesting plot, it is entertaining, it is stylish, well crafted and well made. It is also an unpredictable film with lots of neat twists an turns. A well made and underrated horror film.
