Ok so Im watching tv 3 weeks ago and I see a commercial for the dvd of 28 Days Later, and it says "3 alternate endings that will haunt you for days!". This immediately activates my saliva gland and I start drooling over the release of the dvd because the movie is in my top 3 of the year. So finally, the dvd comes out yesterday, and I go and rent it (nabbed the first copy, that happens when you get to the store 5 minutes before it opens) and tonight I pop in the dvd. I watch the movie, enjoy the hell out of it just like at the theater, and then after the movie proceed to watch the 3 endings that are going to haunt me for days.

BULLSHIT!

(spoilers for the dvd endings)

Ending #1: a continuation of the original ending, except the girls take Jim to a hospital, but he ulitmately dies and they walk off together. End. Lame as shit, not haunting at all.

Ending #2: Jim is no where to be found and the girls are all alone at the cottage house. The jet flies over seeing their 'Hello' on the ground with them jumping around, without Jim. End. Lamer than the first alternate, not haunting one bit, fucking sucks!

Ending #3: Its a story board ending with the dialouge spoken by the director of the film. This ending is much better than the previous 2. Jim and the clan end up at the barricade, but there are no soldiers. Frank still becomes infected, they tie him up, and end up at the testing facility where the movie began. There is one survivor there and he eventually tells them of the cure; a complete blood transfusion. Jim ends up switching blood with Frank, thus becoming infected. The movie then ends with him lying on the operating table watching the video screens of war and mayhem just like the chimp in the beginning. Sucks, lame, not haunting. Sure, it is the best of the 3, but it still sucks because it was fucking Storyboard and not live action.

The reason of this rant is because I feel violated by Fox Searchlight. Here they are telling me that the movie has 3 new endings, all of which will scare the shit out of me for days. LIARS! MOTHERFUCKING LIARS! Im not scared, I just feel stupid for having not rented the vhs. Since these endings all sucked, and werent 'haunting', there was no point to rent the dvd. This is just outright bullshit. Its false advertising!

AHHHHH IM PISSED!

Its advertising....what did you expect?

"3 mediocre, forgettable, alternate endings!"

Why would you ever rent the VHS over the DVD anyways?

I didnt rent the VHS. Had I known the endings sucked, I would've though. Im one of the people that prefers VHS. Yes, we do exist.

And no I didnt expect "3 mediocre, forgettable, alternate endings', but I did expect a little truth. The endings sucked, they flat out lied to me and everyone.

Yeah, this sorta shit happens all the time.

I was mad after the first year of DVD releases, when they mention DELETED SCENES or ALTERNATE ENDING, and all we get are 4 seconds of dialogue on deleted scenes and an alternate ending that only has a 2 second shot of someone smiling.

I buy Special Edition DVDs nowadays because (a) I love the movie, and (b) it has a commentary. I learn more from a good commentary than almost any Behind the Scenes Featurette that's included on the DVDs - which, BTW 9/10 are bullshit, because they are the specials that are aired on TV before the movie comes out. The Featurettes tell you nothing that you wouldn't have already known if you saw the movie already. And since you HAVE the movie, why even watch those featurettes before you watch the movie? Sometimes they give away major spoilers, which then not only ruins some of the movie for you, but you ALSO don't get any great information along the way!

OK, I'm done ranting. I feel your pain, buddy. I really do.

The only DVD I've seen that REALLY has an alternate ending was Joy Ride. Infact, it had several endings. Infact, in one (or a couple) nearly the entire last third is different. That DVD rocked. Of coarse, so did the movie. :)

How did they lie to you? They didn't lie at all. It's just that you personally didn't like them. It's quite possible that someone out there will find those alternative endings haunting, even scary.

I would guess that you spend a great deal of time being pissed off if every time a DVD or anything else for that matter proclaims something to be great and you don't think it is.

Wow, I didn't know there were any left. Now that's an endangered species.
