Celebrities are the best, especially wacky ones like David Lynch. I guess the idea is admirable, though. Either that or he's living on some sort of cloud.

Lynch's $1 Billion Yogic Flying Peace Mission
Eccentric director David Lynch is trying to raise $1 billion to build a world wide network of Transcendental Meditation "peace palaces" for his guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The Mulholland Dr. film-maker has launched an appeal to create the "meditation Meccas" - including head-quarters in India which will be capable of housing 40,000 followers - in the hope of bringing peace to the world through the practice of mass "yogic flying". Lynch, like late Beatle star George Harrison, has been a devotee of the practice for years and believes the project can stop conflict in the world. He says, "He (Yogi) is teaching a way to go within and gain enlightenment. There's this beautiful ocean of bliss and consciousness that is able to be reached by any human being by diving within, which is really peaceful and harmonious and can be enlivened by the group process. This group is a peace-creating group. It saturates the atmosphere. This is all about establishing peace. Right now, we gotta get peace back in the world. Peace is a real thing."

I was never any good at maths, but 40,000 x £3 is £120,000. I just saved Lynch a packet...

See, if he just bought MDMA for his followers they would all reach the same place at the same time and for less. It would be not unlike Glastonbury but with snazzier clothes, no mud and you don't have to fork out £4 for a limp cheeseburger.

I got vision, the rest of the world needs bi-focals.

Sweet thoughts but unrealistic goals. People will never be peaceful. I'm sure even the gurus are surrounded by some level of intrigue. :p

I agree completely. I think Lynch and the other celebs are sincere seekers, and the YOGI is just exploiting them. If they want to have mediation centers throughout the world, they don't need 1 Billion to do it. I've got no problem with meditation, but I'm familiar with groups like this, and even though on the surface they preach "peace", internally they often operate using harsh and abusive methods. I'd bet dollars to donuts (where in the hell did that phrase come from?) that this YOGI, for all his "tender" appearance, is a very "my way or the highway" type of guy. I'll also bet that, even though his group has a "grass roots" appearance, it has a highly organized and structured hierarchy.
