I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the Celebrity forum but here is the article from IMDB:
Australian actor Hugh Jackman is the new favorite to take over from Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond. Brosnan plans to hang up the superspy's famous tuxedo when filming concludes on the next installment in the series - and X-Men star Jackman is thought to be top of the list of potential replacements. A source at 007 movie makers Eon says, "A lost of possible successors has been drawn up, and Hugh is at the top. He's got everything the producers are looking for - dark good looks, an athletic build, a sense of humor and box-office clout. At 35, he is also the right age." British actors Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Jeremy Northam and Paul Bettany have all been put in the frame - but they have now reportedly been eliminated. The source explains, "Owen lacks the necessary lightness of touch to make Bond a box-office success." While Bettany is "strawberry blond - and there's never been a blond 007". Bond director Lewis Gilbert adds, "You can't have someone too young playing Bond because they would never be believable in the part. And the chances of getting a superstar like Russell Crowe are slim because he'll be too expensive, he'll have all sorts of projects lined up and is unlikely to want to commit to making a series of films. Hugh Jackman clearly fits the bill."

Better than Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany? Yes.
Better than Clive Owen? More or less the same.
Better than Jeremy Northam? NO WAY! Have you seen Enigma? He played the part as if he was preparing himself for the role, and did an AMAZING job!

Hugh Jackson, Clive Owen, and Paul Bettany would all be worthy choices for Bond, in my opinion.

I could definately see Hugh Jackman doing a great job. Clive Owen certainly has the right look but I think I'll reserve judgement until I've seen Beyond Borders. I don't know about Paul Bettany. But Jeremy Northam I would agree with damned martian as being a good choice. But, unless Clive Owens blows me away in Beyond Borders, I think Jackman may very well be the best choice to play Bond.

Why? Pierce doesn't wanna do James Bond anymore? He is the best James Bond yet in my opinion.

I agree that he is the best Bond (yeah, you heard me Connery fans ;) ) but he is starting to get a little old at 50. I personally think he has atleast a few more years before he is too old but I guess he wants to stop after this next one.

Hmmmm...
well so long as alternates Bond and X-men movies, i will be happy ;) hugh is a good choice, but will he stick with it past 2 movies?
and i would still love to see Clive Owen do it.

Well, sounds good to me. I love Hugh (in a nearly-gay kinda way...whaddya want, the man's a God), so I'd be fine with it. I still think Clive Owen would be a terrific choice, and I don't know how the Wolverine image would work with a simultaneous Bond, but if it's Hugh Jackman who gets the gig next...I'll be a happy man.

how exactly would this guy make a good Bond? Looks like a weakling, no way does this guy look like James Bond.

As much as I like Hugh Jackman I just don't see him as Bond. I can't think of an actor to replace Pierce, maybe someone like Christian Bale? Bah, I dunno.

Give him a box of hair dye, and he'd be ready to go.

Go Hugh Jackman!!
I personally think Jackman is one of the most charasmatic actors around today today. I would love to see what he would do with the role. He has all the qualities that would make Jude Law or Christian Bale great. Now if they could only make the movies less crappish.
By the way Jackman I think is the sexiest guy in hollywood and very hot so that might be clouding my judgement.

Well, it's a shame that Brosnan is not gonna be James Bond after the next one. But Hugh Jackman? I dunno. I really like the guy, he's a great actor and a very charismatic guy, but I kinda liked the idea of Clive Owen being James Bond. He seems to fit the bill a bit more than Jackman.

I would rather have Clive Owen be Bond than Jackman, who already is affiliated with the X Men franchise. Owen would also be cheaper than Jackman and likely do just as well as Jackman. In other words, I want Owen over Jackman.

I would love to see Clive Owen in it too. Theres only one problem. Beyond Borders will take a while to get over.

I'm all for Hugh Jackman as 007. We know he can handle the action and he's got the suave charming thing going for him, and he'll pull off the accent, so bring him on I say. He's also been someone I could see in that role.

I figured they would always get someone british.

Wow. Since when has Paul Bettany been considered a candidate for the Bond role? I used to always throw his name out there just for shits and giggles seeing as he's my favourite actor. I still think he could do the role though.
I like Jackman a lot but I just can't see him doing Bond. Clive Owen seems perfect. I just ask that they don't give it to Bale.

Bale has got Batman now, so I doubt he'd want to be involved in two franchises at the same time.

Well, Hugh's got Wolverine, and I don't think Marvel is gonna drop the X-MEN franchise any time soon...they're even probably working on solo WOLVERINE movies as we speak. And Hugh's said several time that he's committed to stay Wolverine throughout the sequels.

he's also got Helsing coming out.
wait.. is Van Helsing the same thing as the anime ??
still.. I don't think a solo Wolverine movie would be good.. I prefer the team (X-Men) because every character is different which brings up more "cooleness" to the movie.

I'd say Jackman would make a good Bond, but it's nothing compared to what Ewan McGregor could do with the part.

Ewan is too childish looking to play bond.
Yes, but as a younger looking Bond, he could stay with the franchise longer than 4-5 movies like the last two have done. He's also capable of kicking ass with his jedi...shit sorry....fighting techniques.

I actually think Ewen would be a good choice. I still like Hugh Jackman more though.
And for some reason, I don't know why, I could picture Jackman accepting to doing more than one franchise at the same time moreso than Christian Bale.

If I were Jackman, I'd feel honored to play such a well known character, but also feeling fear since he wouldn't be able to play many other types of roles for quite a long time. Playing Wolverine is a big task, with possible sequel and spin off projects. Next is Van Helsing, which would probably have sequels if it's successful, and with the director of The Mummy, it could happen. But a third franchise? That's a hard load to carry

Good point, Scarface. I mean, the man sure does like his fun shoots, but would he really want to play virtually just THREE characters (Wolverine, Van Helsing, James Bond) all his career or at least for the next ten years? I don't think so.

Yes, Brosnan is the best Bond, and NO, the news is not true. It is a rumour fabricated by an Australian gossip magazine 'NW Magazine on 15Oct. That Australian magazine is a celebrity gossip mag which has Jackman on the cover in almost every issue. It is then picked up by imdb (Internet Misinformation database), imdb also shamelessly change the source from 'an insider at NW Magazine' to 'a source at EON'. This is called cut and paste approach to journalism for their own convenience sake.
But the next Bond is the last for Brosnan right?

Yes but there will only be a new Bond in 2007. They are now concentrating their efforts on Bond 21 to be released in 2005. Instead of joining some notorious media bandwagon on talking replacement, we (or at least anyone who likes Bond or Brosnan) should be getting 100% behind Brosnan and giving him our full support and let Brosnan lead us to a victorious 21st Bond film in 2005 before he hang his tux.(otherwise we'll have another Die Another Day:mad: :( )

Gamblers aren't self destructive , they want to destroy everyone else around them . Families , lovers , friends , everyone but themselves . A paraphrase from Croupier .
Clive Owen ( pictured here as Jack Manfred in Croupier )
The essence of cool
The perfect combination of intelligence , good looks , charisma , mystery , with the all important hint of danger . If he's not the embodiment of the character that was in the Bond novels , then i don't know who is . It's certianly not Obi Wan , Wolverine , or American Psycho .

I feel like such a traitor to my cause, but, I frankly think Ewan is just a bit too cuddly to be Bond. Don't get me wrong, he's just about as diverse a fucker as I could ask for, and I think he could play a serial killer, a rapist, a king or a cobbler...but...he's just not Bond.
I say Jackman or Clive Owen would be the best bet.

This makes him a good wolf but not Bond.
