What in the hell is the world coming to? Scary Movie 3 grosses close to 50 mil. How damn retarded has our society become? A movie, with no plot, no acting, taking bits and pieces from good movies and spoofs them sets the record. Our society is going to hell in a hand basket real fast folks.

Movies like Runaway Jury and Mystic River are lucky to get 14 mil in a weekend, and a joke (and I mean joke) of a movie sets the record.

I don't even know what to say now. Matrix REvolutions and Return of the King are coming out in the next few months. I bet they get nowhere close to this. I am ashamed...ashamed to call myself a movie goer after seeing this.

Damn the Wayans and the mess they started (they didn't make this one).

AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH! Had to get that out of my system.

I know at least ten people who went and saw the movie this weekend! The previous Scary Movies did rather well for R rated flicks. Besides ensuring that the comedy is lame and uninspired, the PG-13 rating makes it more accessible to those kids at the theater with their disposable incomes. Nowadays that's a huge part of the general movie audience. And the decline of civilization continues...

Well I went to opening day for SM3 @ 350pm. The auditorium that was packed but WITH TEENAGERS!
The PG13 rating will obviously bring them to the theater but what killed me is that corner theater that is from where I am at, these kids had to come to this one!-
As for the shit load of $$$ they are making, Zucker and Dimension better enjoy the ka-ching because another movie is sooo ready to claim their spot next week and so forth.

Agreed on all counts. It's a shame people get sucked into the hype

Even those that hated the previous installments claim this one "looks better" and they will go watch it.

Looks better?

When you set the standards so low with two steaming piles of shit like Scary Movie 1 and 2, how could it possibly look any worse?

This is an example of the complete adulteration of society.

People bitch and moan about how unoriginal Hollywood is, how they've run out of ideas and are making too many remakes and sequels.. and then you pay to see one of those very movies and cause those greedy bloodsuckers to make more.

It's a vicious vicious cycle and there's no end in sight.

50 million..?

I can think of 50 million ways of better spending that kind of money.

God damnit I'm pissed. Doc Holliday, you made me get out my special Ovaltine secret decoder ring, only to find out this was just some damn rant about Scary Movie 3.

Well, I wouldn't say that. The Two Towers made $62 million on its opening weekend, and The Matrix Reloaded made even more with $91 million (and that was rated R too). So even though I am shocked that Scary Movie 3 made that much on its opening weekend, I definitely don't think it will beat The Matrix Revolutions or Return of the King.

And watch, next weekend, Scary Movie 3 will make barely anything. I'm guessing at least a 60% decrease. At least.

About as retarted as your rant I guess. Diehard movie schmoes still seem to have their heads up their asses. Goto the movies and enjoy a movie for once. Laugh a little and stop caring if the movie is Mystic River (which had a terrible ending).

(This is why I dont post in the Rant board, I go overboard...)

This is one of those really hard rants to reply to. One thing you can't convince someone about is comedy. You can't make an Adam Sandler lover into a Kevin Smith lover if it's not to their tastes. It's especially true with parodies, a genre that almost all critics claim is the hardest to review. It either works for you, or it doesn't. It obviously didn't work for you, but just because you didn't like it doesn't mean that Western civilization will fail because Scary Movie 3 topped the box office charts

I was tricked, dammit!!!

Ok, I DID see it, but as many of you know, it SUCKEDSUCKEDSUCKEDSUCKEDSUCKED! The acting was terrible, the directing was bad, the plot was just stupid, and the comedy fell flat.

Ok, well there were SOME funny parts, but it overall sucked.

But I know how you feel. Let's call it an improvement, as the previous box office record holder for October was Tomb Raider, a worse film. So this is a positive change.:)

Scarface was right, comedy is pretty subjective. I know people that found Weekend at Bernie's hillarious. I am surprised though that this did do so well. Didn't anyone else see Scary movie 2?

I see your point. It was one of those moments when I went "holy shit, how in the F$$$ did this happen". Comedy as any genre are subjective, I just happen to think movies like this are pure shit! But that's just my opinion.

I was tricked too. Mostly because all the scenes that looked good in the trailer weren't IN the actual movie. The only thing worse than erevealing too much is showing stuff that doesn't appear in the actual film.

I can't really say I'm surprised. There's not really any comedies out right now that cater to teen potty humor. American Wedding has come and gone, so what's left.

Like others have said, bringing the rating down to PG-13 garauntees more sales. Kids are more apt to take their girlfriends to see a dumb brainless comedy than they would a serious movie like Mystic River.

I'm also sure that people who hated Scary Movie II were willing to give this one a fresh shot since the cast and crew were completely different.

ummmmmm... no it wasnt????

The previous October Box Office Record Holder was RED DRAGON on October 6, 2002 with $36.5 million. Followed by THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE on October 17, 2003 with $28.1 million.

1) SCARY MOVIE 3
2) RED DRAGON
3) THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2003)

come to think of it: Tomb raider was a summer release not October... i checked IMDB, it was released on JUNE 11, 2001.

where did you get your info that Tomb Raider was the OCTOBER BO holder???

I saw SCARY MOVIE 3.. i thought it was funny... i felt the stars of it deserved this to be a big hit.

Scary Movie makes a shit load of money purely based on HYPE and movie fans being 99% retarded? And this pisses everyone off right, frustrating them that good films don't make so much at the bank?

Well now you know how wound up I get when Lord of the Rings and Matrix Reloaded clean up at the box office. Mini-rant finished.

me thinks I be retarded then for really enjoying this
movie, except for the spoof of 8 Mile, MY GOD,
that was the most unfunniest thing about the movie.

Comedy as an art form, and as is all art forms,
is subjective.

I feel this movie deserved to rake in the dough,
as it's a movie that's designed to entertain
the human race. And if one were so inclined
to not want to be entertained, then they
can stay home, and find something else
to do, hopefully not masturbating, because
as we all know, it'll either make you blind,
or shoot out like a geiser on your girlfriend,
causing a very sticky situation. ;)

But this is all my opinion.

Watching Scary Movie is a little like masturbating.

Everyone does it in private but rarely admits it, and when they do it's kind of embarrassing.
Getting caught doing it is the worst thing imaginable.
After the climax you feel silly, guilty and completely shallow inside.

Dude - it wasn't that bad. Just chill out.

Also, a reason it made so much is because this isn't the type of movie you see alone. You see this one and you're taking a Goddamn caravan with you, so you can all laugh your asses off, then talk about it after it's done.

Just - ease up.

I know, I don't get it at all.

The trailers are made up to be amusing but that's about it. The movies suck. After seeing the first after hearing how good it was, I never saw another again.
