I got some issues in sports I need to sound off on this week so feel free to comment on mine or add your own. This could be a fun thread:
Warren Sapp has made the rare jump from my very good side to my elite hated list of sports figures (Bonds, Clarett, Steinbrenner et all). He was given a chance to clarify his comments on the NFL being a slave system and all he did was dig a bigger hole.
How does he even begin to think its a fair comparing his lifestyle of being a multi millionaire athlete to that of a slave? Hello dumbass. You are an employee and an insanely well paid employee at that. Those of us in the real world who have much smaller salaries with much bigger problems with our bosses wouldn't even have to the balls to make that comparison. I tried and tried to find ways to make sense of his justification for why he stood by his comparison. I soon realized its like trying to make sense of the famous Louis Black (correct me if I'm wrong) line, "If it wasn't for the horses I wouldn't have spent that year in college"
He and Mike Irvin were talking about deeper seeded reasons for not being allowed to be an individual on the field like NBA players are. Dude football is the ultimate in team sports. I'd think you'd figure that one out by now. It's a conspiracy that they aren't allowed to take their helmets off in celebration or anger. I say the NFL is allowing more in the way of celebrating than they have in years.
I'll save my Marlins one for later and let them enjoy their victory for now....

As far as Sapp goes...
He is a moron. No better than Rush. Stupid comments and a few million in the bank.
I wish I was so lucky to play ball and put my oversized foot it my mouth.

Good thread, here's one of mine....
The Marlins were the best team in the MLB this year. I know a lot may hate them, but they were the best. They beat the team with the best record in the NL (The heavily favored Giants), came back from a 3-1 game deficit against the Cubs in the NLCS.... beating Prior AND Wood. Then beat the supposed best team in the League in 6 games to win the World Series. Yes, I agree... it was annoying how the media kept rambling about McKeon's age, how it was such a magical story, etc. But they were the best team, you don't fluke a championship in baseball (like you can in some other sports).
More rants to come...

Coming soon- a rant on the current state of the Joblo NFL Confidence Pool! Oh yeah, I've got some things to get off my chest about a couple schmoes near the top. Hmpf! I'm not going to mention names though, since I love all the SportsSchmoes (some more than others;) ).
Well happy Halloween to all the SportsGhouls out there. Here is a special Happy Halloween greeting to the Sports Forum's version of Jamie Lee Curtis, our own favorite ScreamQueen, ... Morgana of course.:)
Keep an eye out for that rant.

Papa I can't wait to see that rant...I'm fairly certain I have nothing to do with that rant, because well I'm not near the top anymore.
I will say this about the league though, next year if I have any say in it no auto pick (I know papa agrees there)...were drafting the sobs live and I'm not it charge again. Having final say in trades kinda bites I tell you what.
While I'm at it....
Justin Timberlake as a sideline reporter..... wtf..... I believe we should now be on the look out for locusts attacking our crops and all that. Since when does being a big fan and just being famous serve as adequate credentials to landing jobs on sports broadcasts. Didn't work with Dennis Miller, we all know about Rush Limbaugh, remember John Tesh in the Olympics....yeesh!
Does the NBA and ABC really believe the presence of Justin Timberlake will improve the ratings at all? Even the most ardent Timberlake stalkers probably aren't going to start watching the NBA just to see him make a fool out of himself on the sidelines. All this hiring does is piss off the NBA fan who already tunes into the game and it might even drive away some of those who were on the fringe. What kind of monkeys do they have making these decisions?
The only analysis I want to here from Justin is a blow by blow account of the night he made Britney a woman. Photos and videos would be helpful.

Topic #1- The BCS and the mid-major conference powerhouses. Well I've got to say I love to watch conferences like the MAC and the WAC and so forth. They play good exciting football and it's a hell of alot of fun to watch. Should these teams be considered for a BCS bid if they go undefeated... NOT ON YOUR LIFE! In an average year for the Big Ten, you take the MAC champions and they would go at best 4-4 in league, and I may be being generous there. People cream there jeans when a MAC team upsets a BCS conference team, and we've seen it happen more than once this year, and it's great, but what about the numerous games they lose in between upsets. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe TCU is undefeated, do you want them playing in a BCS bowl game? C'mon, the Horned Frogs? No way. This isn't basketball where the cinderellas might have better chance, and that chance is even slim. The BCS isn't perfect, but there is no way you can include teams like that.
Topic #2- Warren Sapp. Well he is a good defensive lineman(not great), who should close his trap and prove himself on the field (2 sacks this year:rolleyes: ). I'll give him this, he is good self promoter (even bad publicity is good), and he will get paid huge money. I hate to agree with Warren, but I don't really se the harm in taking off your helmet after making a good play, these guys are pro's, college I cant condone it though. And who was notorious for doing that and is considered one of the classiest guys ever to play, Emmitt Smith. This lead me into my next rant...
Topic #3- Knowing when to call it a career. a) What is left for Emmitt Smith to accomplish? All time rushing leader, numerous Super Bowl victories, sit back and enjoy. Why stuggle on a losing team with 3/4 of the stands empty in Arizona. That is a shame he is going out like that, but it's his own doing so I can't feel to sorry for him.
b) Joe Paterno, oh Joe, why? At 77 you should be enjoying lif with your wife, children, and grand children. No one should tell him to retire, but the people around him should maybe put the idea in his head. I'm not saying he shouldn't be associated with Penn St. football, he absolutely should, It keeps him young, but maybe not as head coach anymore. Even if he doesn't admit it age takes it toll on the body and mind. They are 2-7, 0-5 in Big Ten play, this is not how I would have liked to see him go out either.
Well I guess that about does it.
Oh wait there are a couple more.
Topic #4- The Joblo NFL Confidence Pool. Don't confuse this with the fantasy league. This is where we assign point values to the games every week and pick winners. And who is leading this pool... A Canadiian (Ughh)! By his own admission this person didn't even follow football closely until this year. He is leading the pack, c'mon American football fans, have some pride! How can you let this go on? These supposed football guru's are getting their asses handed to them by "a foreigner", oh my break out the cryin' towel. How can these red blooded American "male" football fans look themselves in the mirror... oh goodness, I just thought of another disgrace.;)
Look who is in 3rd place in this thing. In first place is "a foreigner" and in 3rd place is (gasp) "a girl". This person who by her own admission hadn't watched much football in 20 years comes in just whoops up on the rest of these so called male football "experts" week in and week out. Yikes!
This lead me into a the third part of my rant. There is one of these so called experts who doesn't even have the "cajones" to join the pool. This person spouts off on a weekly basis in the NFL discussion thread but yet is no where to be found when picking the games. To me this is the worst offense of all, ughh!
Topic #5- Morgana's blonde butt shaking girl avatar. Thanks for putting that one back up for a while, it's my favorite of your disco collection.:)
Wheww, I'm out of breath. That is all for now.

I hate the soccer cheats who'd rather dive to get the penalty, than try to score fairly. I also hate the ones who roll over eight times holding their face, after they've been clipped on the ankle.
Perfume wearing, frequent manicure discount card holding, pillow biting, fabric softening jizz garglers the lot of them.

Watching an exciting football game and you the bastards work that fucking simulcast bullshit and miss the rest of an exciting football game example the Pats-Colts game the Colts have the ball and with 1:55 to go the Canadian station CH simulcasts the fucking KC-San Diego game with CBS.
The fuckers did this earlier in the season with the KC-Green Bay game overtime hits and then lets cut to Buffalo-NY Jets.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who faces this problem

Here's one idiots fans treating All-Star game voting like a fucking popularity contest Modano and Turco don't deserve to be on there.
That is one of many examples why they should take fan voting out of the game it leaves people who deserve to be in the All-Star game out.

The Fucking TRAP!!
Someone explain to me how dulling the game to a vaguely hockeyesque system is a good idea?
Any coach who plays the trap should be bitch slapped with a sack of doorknobs.

No shit and now almost every team does it. Along with clutching and grabbing and hooking and holding which the League was supposed to call but they never do in fact the crackdown has been dead since last November.

I have to disagree. Ive said it before but Im glad the Stars got the game winning goal because of that rule. It was pointless and ruined the game for 2 years. It was the perfect, and maybe only, way to get rid of the rule.

I absolutley agree I hated that rule it took goals away even if the skate wasn't quite in the crease and just off the crease or just left the crease as the goal went in the goal wouldn't count. I remember an instance where that occured.

yep, the whole foot didnt need to be there, just a fraction of your toe and thats all it took...no grey area. If there was a hang nail bending over the blue side of the crease, no goal. Bull Shite with a capital BS!

Ill tell ya...since this is a rant thread....The god damn clutching and grabbing that goes on is sick. and every team does it. Your team, my team, Sev's team, my uncles brothers team,....it dont matter...its part of the game now. the whole dump and chase and hook and grab and put me too sleep. its a damn mess out there. We could have one ref, two refs, a robotic ref that can sence a PIM with a lazer...it wouldnt change the fact that people are diving all over the ice, people are hooking all over the ice and people are getting pissed off ALL OVER THE ICE! At this point in the season it seems like all the powers that be could care less about the season and are all focused on the stupid labor war.
"Hey, the game has gone to shite and no one can score anymore"
"Who cares, I want my client to make 25 million in the next 3 years"
"Hey, fans could care less about your team unless your name is Ottawa, Detroit, Colorado, Toronto, or Philly!"
"Who cares, cant ya see we have TWO refs out there now!"

My thoughts exactly. Infact McCabe said they are prepared to sit out for the "rest of our lives" if NHL owners lock them out this fall.
He also said "The bottom line is, if they want a hard (salary) cap, we'll sit out for the rest of our lives,"
"If they're not going to budge off of that, there's really nowhere to go."
"It's all in the semantics. They want to impose a system where we can't direct our marketplace. What's the point of having free agency if you can't go anywhere? Whatever way they put it, it's not a good deal for us."
"I wouldn't be making the money I am now if it weren't for the guys in 1994. There are hundreds of kids coming up who are going to be National Hockey League players. In the end, they deserve a fair shot at a solid marketplace and a chance to earn a decent living."
Umm.... No you wouldn't be making the money you are today if fans like us buy tickets and merchandise and other stuff that pay for your salaries in the first place. Yeah $3 million isn't enough npw I want to make $10 million like everybody else does and get overrpaid like everybody else. I'd love to make $1 million a year so quit bitching you don't make enough money in the damn league you all are going to make $55 million more than all of us schmoes here anyways. Fucking spoiled brats

Here is a rant....
Refs!!!!!!!!!!!
Its in now to pubicly bash a ref. Is that fair? do they have there heads up ther arse? Does Kerry Fraiser's hair ever move even in 200 mph wind?
Baseball - We got the home plate umpire. A thankless job of calling balls and strikes. every other pitch is groaned at and the other pitch is cheered. Im going to forget about the new machines the MLB has brought in to dictate what is a stike. But damn I hate it when these guys are in a hurry to get back to there hotels and start calling everything in the 7-8-9th innings. Conversly, there are some that squeeze the shite out of the zone as it gets tight and makes you shake your head. I also understand that the base refs have a tough job...with a "rule" like Tie Goes To The Runner, things can get scary for them. You hve to judge foul balls on the line...home runs that hit a 3D looking wall...did he tag him or not? Plus the baseball refs seem to have the biggest ego out of all the sports...thats been curbed since the "walk out" a few years ago....overall...they do a good job...I think.
Basketball - This is a tough one to call...between the league putting in new rules every year and having to decide how many seconds you are in the key......It was much easier back 20 years ago when people played real basketball. now its almost like hockey...clutch and grab and almost every shot has a hand in there. I have no idea how they do it and with that said...Basketball is easily the WORST officiated sport out of the big four. From traveling to palming to illegal defense....it is VERY inconsistent and mind numbing. Special players DO get special treatment, then they cry when they are called. The NBA has become a bit of a joke and the leauge needs to do something...yeah right.
Football - another sport where a hold or a chop is there on pretty much every play. But it just seems like the NFL is best run leauge. (my super bowl win feelings are aside right now :) ) There are enough guys out there who know what to look for that I cant really say a bad thing about the NFL refs overall. The game did a good thing by instituting the instant replay, even if some things arent allowed to be looked at.
Hockey - I wont go off as bad as I could here...my Hockey roots have been said, but damn if the NHL needs some help in there consistency. Every game is a different story...some refs let some things go, others dont. (Joe Thornton just scored :) ) sorry......We have talked about the clutch and the grab and the interfearence and all of the defensive shite that has ruled the NHL for a few years now. There really isnt anything they can do expect MAKE the refs call everything. if it takes 20 power plays for each team every game, fine...do it. Maybe then Ill see a score 6-5 like it should be..(Glen Murray just scored too :) ) This has to be the hardest game to call but its even harder to sit there and watch high sticks and the god damn OBSTRUCTION that goes on.

I think umpires do a good job and it seems some of them aren't bias to certain teams in the league at least it seems that way. This is probably the best officiated sport of the 4.

Lately I haven't liked the officiating in this league and miss Pat Riley and Mark Cuban dissing officials over and over. I don't watch a lot of basketball but sometimes I wonder with the refs in that sport.

It's quite sad when the officlas are working part-time and hey remember that stike a couple years ago "we want a raise for being bad officals despite we only work 1 day a week and 17+ weeks a year it must be a nice life if you ask me.

They are some refs that can call the game properly but it's when they put the 2 referee system in and rushed these refs coming out of junior who didn't deserve to be there in the first place. Refs like Blaine Angus shouldn't be in the NHL and should be back in junior or AHL where he belongs or be banned permanently he's a fucking blind idiot.
My main problem is when they said 2 years ago they were going to call obstuction, highsticking, slashing, shots to the head, etc. and it died in a month because coaches were bitching about getting 12-14 penalties a game. Well if you don't like it CHANGE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing I notice a lot in the NHL thread:
No, the refs are not always wrong. I don't care who your team is, I guarantee that Refs have not honestly screwed you for more than 5 games in one season. But most fans (specifically those from Ottawa, Toronto, or Boston:p ), seem to feel that no ref has ever called a game appropriately in their city. In fact, they seem to be the only teams that have never lost in earnest, it's always a bad call. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but it gets a bit tiresome when every game falls victim to a bad call (even ones that you win?).
