James Nichols, the brother of Terry Nichols, who was convicted on charges of acting as Timothy McVeigh's assistant in the Oklahoma City bombing, has filed a libel suit against Oscar-winning documentary maker Michael Moore. In the suit, Nichols claims that Moore misled him about the purposes of the his film, Bowling for Columbine, which, he said, "maliciously portrays him as the poster child for what is wrong with America today and falsely accuses him of being one of the perpetrators in the second-worst act of terrorism in the history of the United States." Nichols is seeking damages of from $10-20 million on each count.

Uhhh, libel is written, slander is spoken, silly terrorist.

I don't remember Moore ever flat out saying that he was a terrorist or anything.

And that Nicholes guy is crazy anyways. Just look at what he said.

Its been quite awhile since I saw this movie, but I seem to remember coming away with the impression that James Nichols had some part in supporting (though not planning or carrying out) the bombing.

So maybe he has a case.

So maybe he has a case.

Not from the looks of it.

There is a 100% chance that Nichols signed a release, and given Moore's experience with these types of documentaries, I'd bet on it being iron clad.

I'd be VERY surprised if this case wasn't simply thrown out.

Even scarier than the topic at hand: This us a thread dealing with Michael Moore and it's staying on-topic. Now I just need a Polanski thread on-topic, and I've seen it all. ;)

Nichols is crazy anyways. Watching the movie at least leads you to believe that.

A lot of people who've never seen the movie think that anyway.

Screwy trigger-happy terrorist hillbillies. Can't even get their case straight.

This will be thrown out of court faster than you can say "gun nuts."

How long has Bowling for Columbine been out for? Since like the mid fuckin' 80's or something? Gee, Mr. Nichols, it's a good thing you didn't wait like a couple thousand years to file this unbelievably ridiculous shit

I think this won't get far, especially after the courts, the jury or whatever take a close look at Nichols, the guy is either not from this planet, or not mentally in this planet.... :)

Plus, I don't think he'll get the support after being a primary suspect in the Oklahoma City bombing of Alfred P. Murrah Building.

Yes libel is written, but since Michael Moore does get writing credits for the film then a case for libel can be made since there is a written source. I can't comment on his actual accusation since I have never seen the movie. There does seem to be a negative air coming from everyone about Nichols when from what I know most people only saw him in the movie. Remember his brother committed that awful deed.

Jesus Christ, I make myself look stupid every day...now if only I could get Micheal Moore to film it and then I could sue him for 10-20 million......

I'm curious why it's 10 TO 20 million, a $10 million gap is very wide...these things always make me go "huh?"

That's $10 to 20 million PER COUNT. And I think Nichols cites 9 counts.
