Oy vey...so it looks like these two Nobel laureates are going to fix the whole problem, eh? Well, Brad and Jen, SHUT UP AND ACT!

Jen and Brad Want Peace
By Sarah Hall

It's amazing what you can do with a little help from your Friends.

First-Friend Jennifer Aniston and hubby Brad Pitt think they might even have found the answer to peace in the Middle East.

Hollywood's golden couple has joined a group of celebrities lending their support to OneVoice, a grass-roots Mideast peace plan, whose catch phrase is "empowering the silent majority."

Translated, that means that advocates of the OneVoice plan believe that most people in the war-torn Middle East truly want peace, but are overpowered by the few extremists who won't back down from conflict. The plan is an initiative by the Peaceworks Foundation.

"The last few years of conflict mean that yet another generation of Israelis and Palestinians will grow up in hatred. We can not allow that to happen," Pitt and Aniston said in a joint statement on the OneVoice Website.

British tabloids reported that the Aniston-Pitts, as well as a host of other would-be peacemaking celeb members of OneVoice's Entertainment Council, were planning a journey to the Middle East to put their peace plan into play; however, Daniel Lubetsky, president and founder of the OneVoice intiative, says these reports are false.

"I cannot express my gratitude enough for the unwavering support of the many members of Entertainment Council but I can assure you that there are not any immediate plans for celebrities to travel to the Middle East," Lubetsky said in a statement.

Other Entertainment Council stars include Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito, Jason Alexander and Edward Norton.

Though there are no plans to ship Brad and Jen overseas just yet, that's not to say a future mission of benevolence is completely out of the question.

"There will be six goodwill groups traveling to the Middle East to support Israeli and Palestinian people in their effort at achieving consensus for conflict resolution at the grass roots level over the next 18 months," Lubetsky stated, "but as a matter of policy, OneVoice does not disclose ahead of time any of the names of the many dignitaries, religious leaders, business leaders, celebrities and scholars that participate in the tours.

For now, the stylish stars have plenty going on at home.

Pitt has just finished shooting the Greek epic Troy, while Aniston is currently wrapping up the 10th and final season of Friends--which was shortened by a few episodes at the request of its stars.

Though Aniston's reps vehemently denied rampant rumors that Friends filming was expedited to mesh with the Aniston-Pitt progeny deadline, the actress herself has indicated the couple will be going for a baby as soon as the series wraps in January 2004.

Good luck.

At this point, I have to applaud anyone who is willing to try and make a difference in that war torn part of the world.

I dont see them having much luck, but then again who has recently? The only thing anyone can do is keep trying and keep coming up with new ideas.

Maybe one day something will finally work and people will start getting along.

Jen and Brad need to stick to what they're good at...acting... I understand they may have worldly concerns but they are not gonna solve the problems by themselves. ~~~Cheetara ...The Thundercat~~~

geez lighten up people...

It's not like Brad and Jen came out with a statement saying, "We're sick of this Israel/Palestine shit and we're going over there to kick ass and take names."

Kudos to them getting involved.

I read a sentence or two about it. I think Ed Norton got involved also. All I can say is : good luck, and I hope it works.

I don't know why some of you have a problem with them trying. I must admit though I don't have an opinion on that part of the world because I don't know dick about what's going on and why there has been a feud for such a long time.

I don't think Jen or Brad are imagining that they are going to single-handedly solve the middle east peace crisis.

Celebrities lend their names to causes they care about because they know people will talk about it. Just like we are now.

Why didn't we think of this before? Ben and Jlo and solve our middle east problems! While we're at it,they can solve the mad cow epidemic, aids, and give us the cure for cancer! Well done paparazzi!

Well, at least they're trying something. Gotta give 'em credit for that. And at this point, I think any kind of involvement is welcome.

They strike me as a pretty intelligent couple, and all the power to em for trying ANYTHING.

Pitt and Anniston have one thing going for them: Even if they can't help the war out, at least they can probably lure the papparazzi following them into a building when a suicide bomber strikes

Well, this quote pretty much says all I need to say:

"Following Arnold Schwarzenegger's election as governor in California, it seems we are now joining the Hollywood revolution. From time to time, some celebrities think that they might help, and the media amplifies their mission. But this is an incredibly complex situation and I am afraid they are naive. Many Palestinians do not even have television sets. What is more, for the past three years here no one has listened to anyone, so what makes these people think they will listen to Danny DeVito?"
