The lecture wasn't until 7 something. I should up around 5 to make sure I got a pretty good seat. I got up from the auditorium were everyone was waiting for him and went to use the restroom. As I exit the auditorium there sit John Carpenter doing a dinner type of thing with some of the students and staff of WKU. I didn't bother him I just went about my business and came back to the auditorium. A little bit later I went and met up with my friend Smitty and we saw a small crowd hanging outside. We went outside and there was John talking to the students and smoking a cig. I was wearing my Roddy Piper T-shirt and he looked at me and said "Piper's pit... cool are you a wrestling fan?" I said yes and I spoke to him about wrestling for a little bit and then we started talking about basketball and Kobe Bryant. Some people got autographs and talked to him about films. He informed us that people is going to hate this speech because he isn't talking about film he is going to talk about censorship.
In the auditorium he talked about them censoring films and tv and tell us what we can and can't watch. He said "Fuck you for trying to censor my art!" He talked about how blockbuster edits films before it hits the shelf, Movie Mask, and them pulling books and stopped using certain words (Man the boat, salesman fisherman etc.) Carpenter answered Q& A. people asked him about his thoughts on the sequels to Halloween and he said things like that you can't stop it is going to happen. He said he will get paid but you can't stop it. He talked about Myers vs PinHead vs Candyman. He said he sprang his ankle and the were talking to him about that saying Clive will write it and Carpenter would direct it. He said he was on pain killers so no telling what he said was a good idea. He talked about them putting clothes on the chick in the Titanic (Movie Mask) and some one said I have an Idea let's put Myers on the titanic as the ship is going down killing people. Carpenter looked and said good idea. I asked him a question about HO1C and he said yeah they would try to get pg-13 movies, but recently R horror has been kicking ass so studios are trying to get R movies like TCM, JC2, etc.
After this I got his autograph and I shook his hand. I told him like I told Romero that one day I would love to work with him and I have faith it will happen and he looked me in the eye and said you will. I know he ment if you believe then you will and I have that faith that I will. This was a great experience for any young writer, director, or fan to meet Carpenter and I am blessed I had the oppertunity to do so. Thanks Schmoes for your time and patience on this post.
