In recent years, whenever anyone(myself included) makes a criticism about the Star Wars prequels, someone says words to the effect of, "Well the original films are just as cheesy," or "The dialogue in the first films isn't Shakespeare," etc.

It makes me wonder if the Indy films(which came out at roughly the same time) have actually held up better over the years. Let me put it this way, you don't hear people criticizing the dialogue in those films, do you?

Indiana just feels more timeless in my eyes.

I think Indie holds up better because it is a ol' fashioned grease monkey adventure flick. I dunno, just seems that way to me. Plus, the dialogue in the Indie movies are more exciting, and human, for that matter.

Yeah my vote is with Indy.I'm not saying his movies are better but they have aged better.
Nice thread by the way.

Movies with a lot of special effects have a harder time aging well, since technology moves at a fast rate now. Hence, the effects don't look quite as good now, but they're still surprisingly good. But Indiana Jones still holds up great, especially since it's a fun adventure movie that's more grounded in reality, not needing many special effects, and having a more timeless feeling. So Jones is my choice

I gotta go with the majority and say Indy. There's nothing in those flicks that's any less enjoyable now.

Indy. That was the movies that I watched over and over and over and over and over... you get the idea. It has always been funny, human, exciting and it was made by a better director (IMO anyway). Besides, Harrison Ford looked way better as Professor Jones.

I'm going to be different and go with Star Wars. Why? If they made a new Indy film you bet your ass those same people that critisize Star Wars would be first to open their mouths and say the same about the new Indy. IMO I go with Star Wars because I prefer it.

I'm a Jones boy at heart, so my vote definately goes for the Indiana Jones series. Timeless movies.

The Indiana Jones films have held up better. Those amazing, timeless, adventure stories are worth watching over and over again, and never get old.

I vote Indy.

Star Wars has been spoiled by the prequels. Now, of course, Indy may be spoiled by the next sequel. Why cant they leave these great films alone? :(

The Indiana Jones films definitely hold up better than the
Star Wars films.

Depends on how I look at it. In terms of overall experience, the Indiana Jones Trilogy holds up better, because it is a more theme that SW. I watched SW as a kid and have different feelings than when I watch know.

As to how the movies affected me? SW definitely has a more profound effect on me, with absolutely no doubt!

Star Wars has more F/X (it pretty much depends on them), and in this field there has been a lot of improvement, so it looks much more aged than Indy. About story, Indy is more timeless too, because it's an old-timed adventure, while SW tries to be futuristic, deriving in that now we can see it as quite innocent. Just compare the new trilogy with the old one: it is supposed to be set before, but it looks much more advanced and tries to be more complex (failing to). That's what happens with sci-fi: a few years are enough to pass by what you tried to show. Adventure is a more timeless genre. And more if it's set in a recognisable past.

Ditto. One of the greatest, if not the, greatest trilogy of all-time. Fantastic, fun, amazing films.
