a zed and two thoughts, The Pillow Book.. the cook(yadda yadda) are all intense, demanding flicks that'll grab you by the gonads.. two of which are on the cusp of the genre, but they're all VERY worthwhile.

I know Zed is on DVD cause I've been trying to get it for a while.. otherwise, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Try arthouse video stores.. they're BOUND to have a few greenway vhs kicking around.

The Cook... is actually beginning to pick up a big cult following.. lurrrid satire, nasty sex.. what got me were fantastic sets (behind the kitchen.. wow...). check it out!!!

(oh, and if you do manage to find some and you like it, be sure to track down a little french ditty called
delicatessen (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0101700/).. reminded me a LOT of Greenway).

please do all you can to avoid Greenaway. I thought his stuff sounded rad too, but then watched 2-3 films and wanted to kill something. They are really worse than awful...I consider him one of the worst film makers of all time.

One of the most interesting directors out there...whatever happened to him?

I loved THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER (his masterpiece), and was equally enthralled by DROWNING BY NUMBERS and PROSPERO'S BOOKS.

A daring, original filmmaker that ain't 'fraid o' no ghost (or the MPAA).
